I hear you ladies about heavy dresses! I'm easy to please, saw my dress the minute I walked in and was ready to buy and leave, but the sales girl wanted me to try on more.. so I agreed. The dresses she brought me... wow. I made a rule. If it was struggle to hold it in my hands I wasn't putting it on my body! Can you imagine how hot 90% of dresses would be in Jamaica???

I didn't get a boring dress by any means, it's all lace with some cute details, and the best part is it's TWO LAYERS... that's it... so breezy and comfy.

... Now I just need to stay off the "Show off your dress" thread! Every time I'm there I think I made the wrong choice sad.gif

aww Brandy sounds like you defintiely had a less-than-stellar experience.  is the next place you're heading to any smaller than david's?huh.gif

sounds like i really lucked out at the small shop i went to (i mean small too! it was in a house!)

Brandy - sorry for your experience. I don't care where you get married, it's a lot of work lugging around a heavy dress all day. And certainly not something you want to do in the heat and humidity. I know that most dress shops are quite capable of packing a dress up into a tiny package, but then you might worry about wrinkles. Good luck. I'm going to try my luck at finding a dress tonight and tomorrow night.

Hey Brandy,

Sorry you had such a bad experience at David's Bridal, seems to be the trend for a lot of people. Had you searched it on Yelp before you went, you probably wouldn't have walked in the door.  I actually didn't have too bad an experience, and I'm surprised they didn't have more to offer you.  I guess I lucked out with the girl who helped me.  My dress is actually from there and without the underskirt doesn't seem like it'll be too hard avoid the sweat factor.  After picking it, I did a search online and found it used for less than half the price AND the girl had already put in the bustle (David's may charge a lot less for their dresses, but they'll kill you when it comes to alterations)

My dress is actually going to be too heavy I fear... but I purchased it when we were planning on having a wedding here at home, in September.  I was talking to a girl at the dentis the other day who got married this past May in Turks & Caicos.  She recommended getting a second dress for the dinner/reception that we will be having, so I think that's what I will do!

lsmith - welcome and congrats!!  You've found a great board with some really great people!!!

Regarding Brandy's experience....  I'm just really glad that I didn't go to David's Bridal after hearing this and other stories.  I have heard from some coworkers that went to one of their shops locally and I heard that they just were pleasant to deal with.  In our area because it's so small, we have 3 different shops to really choose from, unless we go on a road trip to another state...  Hopefully your next trip will be better Brandy!!

Yes, it is a smaller, family owned bridal shop, I spoke to the owner the other day and she was super nice!  She was even willing to open the shop up for me on the days she is normally closed.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
