UGH! Continental Airlines just cancelled my flight!

Hey Ladies,

So let me just tell you how much I hate Continental Airlines right now. So my wedding gift to my FI was going to be to fly him first class down to DR. I've booked this flight with my TA more than 10 months prior to the wedding. She calls today to tell me that Continental has stopped all direct flights on weekdays now sad.gif

So now what do I do? I can take a connecting flight but I think it's kind of pointless to fly First Class on 2 short flights. Or, I can travel to an airport 1 1/2 hours out of my way to get a direct flight. JFK is that airport and I hear it's a nightmare. Should I just fly coach and nix the whole surprise wedding gift idea. I was really SOOOOO excited about it though as I knew he'd love it.

I kind of feel forced to tell him what I had planned as a surprise and have him make the call on what to do now. There goes that surprise! Thanks a bunch Continental!!!

Thanks for letting me vent ladies. I'm up for an opinions if you have some.mad.gif

An hour and a half drive isn't bad... (haha actually sounds great to me since I have to drive 3.5hrs) and I've only been to JFK once - it didn't seems THAT bad.. but like I said, only once - might have been lucky. If you think he would like it that much and you were that excited about it - I would still go for it through JFK.

But honestly he is going to be excited about going to DR to marry you either way :) I wouldn't stress too much..

I know its frustrating/aggravating but I guess it all depends on how much you still want to surprise him. If you really had your heart set on surprising him then don't tell him about it & definitely consider taking the 1 1/2 hour drive to JFK. Yes I know its 1 1/2 hours out of your way but it is 1st class.

On our return flight home the flight was over booked & we volunteered to stay an extra night in Jamaica. One of our incentives for giving up our seats was flying 1st class the next day & we loved it. It was a perfect way to end our wedding weekend.

Also as a NY'er, to me JFK isn't that bad. I mean what airport experience is nice? But again, I'm a NY'er & am used to JFK/LGA.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am a NY'er and I have NEVER had issues flying out of JFK in fact I prefer JFK to many other airports I have flown from. I travel at least 10 times a year and JFK is a good airport to fly out of (under normal travel circumstances) of course if there is bad weather any airport becomes a nightmare. I would definitely do the drive to have the first class experience.

Thanks ladies for your encouraging words.

Maybe MY 1 experience with JFK was a bad one and it's usually not like that (according to your experiences) Newark airport is just so much easier for me, I know my way around it, it's like a 10 minute drive from my house. But I may just have to suck up the comfort for the great surprise.

Maureen, I'm traveling from 8-24 to 9-1.

Eli-that is weird. Maybe she said it was for the summer dates? I'm gonna call her in a few and ask her to confirm what was said to her from Continental.

I used to live in NY and I prefer JFK. I didn't think it was that bad.

I wouldn't want to drive that far to the airport tho. I'm between two airports each are less the 40 minutes so I guess I'm lucky.

Either way I'm sure he will just be super excited to fly down and marry you!!!

PS I love your wedding date ( my bday) ; )

Hi Jenise,

Let me know what you TA says.... If you end up flying for EWR, let me know if you want to park your car at the hotel I work at (I'm at the Marriott, inside the airport) I can get you discounted parking to $5 per day only! We need to get together some time with Christine too! Just an afternoon for coffee or anything...

Jenise, can you get car service or someone to drive you to JFK so you don't have to actually drive there? that might make it not as bad to do the hour and a half drive.
We're going over an hour away to Philly rather than Newark, which is closer, and we're taking a car service to be more comfortable and less stressed.

Continental did that last year with the Jamaica flights, then reinstated them to 1x a week. It could happen again.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
