I completely understand what you are going through...
I understand the people that can't make it to a destination wedding... with using their holidays and the cost involved...it's a lot to ask!!
But for those who can't make it to the showers and the Bachelorettes... it's really horrible! It's just hurtful ... especially when you have made effort to go to each of theirs!!
Having a destination wedding has really taught me who my real friends are.

That sucks. It's never pleasant to realize that your friends are not really your friends anymore.

I went through a similar experience for my first wedding, but with family. My godfather had told me they wouldn't make it (it was not a destination wedding, it was in the same town) because they were too tired taking care of his wife's father. Fine. Then the day of I'm outside taking picture and in my grandparents' backyard (we were all neighbors back then) and I see them on their balcony and they did not even come to congratulate me. The family has been divided ever since.

I have to say I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there feeling the same way.....although that doesn't sound right to feel glad about this kind of issue. It's a shame that people feel they need to act like that. I'm still in the early planning stage, but let people know right away that it would be a destination wedding....just to make sure those that want to come have plenty of time to save. My two "best" friends have not mentioned even wanting to be there.......yet girls I've just recently made friends with when I moved are all planning to come and keep gushing about what a great time it's going to be. On the flip side my FI best man's wife tells me almost every time we speak how people don't like destination weddings b/c it means having to use their holidays and the cost incurred. That's fine, I'm not forcing anyone to be there, and I understand that not everyone will be but there's no need to be so negative when I'm trying to be happy!
