Is anyone NOT upgrading at the resort?

Recommended Posts

Ya know, I booked my wedding shortly after becoming a member here, but now that I have been on a few months and been reading alot of what everyone does, it looks like everyone upgrades from the package at the resort. Is/has anyone just stuck to what was uncluded? That is what we were planning on, but now I am second-guessing myself (AGAIN!) and thinking that perhaps we do need to do some upgrades...

I am using their ultimate wedding package, but either subbing or adding items.

I had to compare all three packages side by side to see which one ended up being the best for the money once we added things.

We are also not upgrading to the honeymoon suite since we plan to go to another resort for a couple of days after the wedding. Where ever we go we will get a nice room.

I am not upgrading. I was thinking the same thing- that everyone upgrades. I think it's because people who are active in a forum planning their wedding are more likely to want to upgrade & plan things themself. I got a little worried I needed to plan more than I was. A big reason I wanted a Mexico wedding was so I could let the hotel do all the decorating & I wouldn't have to think about stuff like that.

I started contacting brides on tripadvisor & many of them did not upgrade & said it was great. So, I felt more comfortable that I could just show up, let the WC at the hotel do everything & just get married. I'm really excited about planning the adventures & OOT bags, but I've never been interested in picking out decorations & flowers. I also have read enough reviews to trust that what they do standard will be beautiful. I'm also trying to keep it as inexpensive as possible.

I think some people upgrade because they really enjoy being involved in planning those parts of the wedding. So I think it's more of a personal choice.

Did you also mean upgrade the room? We plan on upgrading to a suite, but it's not a honeymoon suite. It isn't much more expensive and has a couch & a minifridge. I'd also like to try to get a good view.

Again, on a budget, I don't want to pay for the honeymoon suite. We don't need a really fancy room. We are still used to traveling cheap. We shared a bed smaller than a twin in Paris. Our last vacation we slept on the world's worst futon.

I didn't really mean the rooms, although we upgraded to one with a view, but the things associated with the wedding/ceremony/reception.

I booked a month or so ago and they said something about meeting with them when we get there to finalize the plans and that sounded great to me! I am supposed to email closer to the date with colors and stuff, but it seemed that the majority of it would be decided when I got there. But it seems that everyone is looking for outside of the resorts and upgrades and whatnot. I didn't want to just let it go and then go crazy in 7 months when there is barely time ti fix it. Oh decisions, decisions.

I would suggest searching for someone who did the standard package there & see if they were happy with it. If you get enough good reviews, you can feel comfortable trusting they will do a good job. I went to trip advisor & searched for my hotel name and "wedding". Then I sent each person who got married there a message. People were very friendly to tell me all about how their wedding turned out & send pictures. Everyone who did the standard package was really happy with it.

I think it depends on how much control you want. Some people have all these ideas of how they want their tables to look at the reception, the types of flowers they want, etc. I'm excited to show up, have a meeting & pick stuff out then. I like that I can use the time I'm saving by not planning that stuff, to research all the activities in the area. That I want to have planned out perfectly.

I am purchasing from the a la carte list at our resort ... instead of using the package at all ... because it has many things we don't need/want, and several 'must-haves' for us are not included.

As for the room, because of the number of rooms we have booked so far, we have been upgraded to the Royal Service room and have 2 rooms free (so we can help pay for our bridal party with those free rooms!)

I got the "free wedding package" at RIU and was only going to add on bouquets and bouteniers, but now that I'm reading more and more, I too am getting more and more ideas and it's getting more elaborate. My FI thinks I should just "let it go" and see what happens, but my inner control freak is having a problem doing that!

we're having the same problem...we dont want to end up with lousy decorations and food...we know we'll be upgrading, and we're thinking about getting an outside WC to help (b/c the current one is worthless, as far as i'm concerned). i wanted a destination wedding so i didnt have to plan, but now i'm spending day and night in front of this computer, panicking (sp?) b/c i dont want my guests to feel that it wasn't worthwhile for them to come.

we got the ultimate package, but i'm unhappy w/ the food choices. i think i may send our WC pics of what i want and see if she can do that.

i have no idea if i answered your question or if i just rambled.....i'm becoming a girl_werewolf.gif (bridezilla kinda...)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
