Majestic colonial- open bar!

All,

Regarding the open bar questions, if you are having your wedding at the Wet Bar or the Parrot Bar, there are 2 bars right around there that make it VERY easy for the guests to walk to for a drink..so the open bar is really not necessary unless you do have the money to spend on it.

I also heard that the bars were close as well. I also got an email from my coordinator giving me the 500 option! This is MUCH better for me, as I said, I am having a huge group of people coming!

I am not getting married at the Majestic (it was my original choice but I have changed to the Palma Real) however, when my fiance and I were interested in the Majestic we decided to take a trip so we were there last March checking things out and I can tell you for sure that the open bar is not necessary. I was very nervous about this as well because I thought it was crazy to pay for an open bar at an all inclusive however once I saw where all the bars were I did change my mind. Obviously you want to make it as easy for your guests as possible but if you do want to save $500 and use it on something else you might want I hope I can ease your concerns that everyone will be drinking like fish regardless!!

Do you know if there is a bar near the steak house/tres carabelas terrace? I also don't think that paying for an open bar in an all-inclusive is necessary, but I also don't want my guest to walk far to get some drinks.

I disagree about this. I was there in May 2009 for my May 2010 wedding and although the bars are close they aren't that close. It takes a couple minute walk. Also do you really want guests leaving your reception to go get drinks? My budget is tight but I would recommend doing some sort of bar whether its open bar or buying bottles and hiring bartenders. You don't want your guests to walk to get drinks and miss things. They also would have to wait for drinks at the bar like any other guests and by doing your own bar (open or bottles) you get personalized service and it's quick. The closest bar to the parrot bar is the terrace or lobby bar and the closest to the wet bar is the steakhouse/seafood restaurants. Both of these can get alittle crowded between 8-10. I wasn't going to do open bar but once I was there and saw the options and timed the walk to the bars I decided it really was better to do some sort of bar and I rearranged my money to accommodate it. They now offer open bar for a flat $500 which includes extra, most receptions are 2 hours so for $1000 if you can manage it, do it! You won't be sorry! Plus it's your wedding! Do you really want to keep walking and getting drinks instead of dancing and celebrating!? Or do your own bottles and hire the bartenders.

You girls already visited the hotel and are making me think twice now. Is there a bar near the terrace? Is it crowded usually? Do you think I should do the open bar. I'm so undecided and need your advices.

When's your wedding, where's your dinner (private or free), did you book a spot for a reception (if you have >20 people)? I can answer anything you need. I just think you don't want to hasseled or make your guests who are paying good money walk to get drinks. You will end up missing people and be treated like any other guest at the bar. If you can spend the extra money I recommend it. If not everyone makes the best of it but it wouldn't be my first choice.

I emailed Sandra with a couple of issues the other day becasue I noticed somethings in the wedding options have changed.

 

These were her responses:

 

•The $500 an hour option-What if I have a DJ and I would want to have the International bar instead? What would the price difference be?

[sandra de la Cruz]-Sorry, this is a rate that just include national drinks. International open bar should be paid per person per hour as stated, full price for the first hour and half price for following hours.

 

•What's the difference between the Traditional Dominican Band and the Trio?[sandra de la Cruz]-Both are Dominican, but the tradicitonal Dominican band is called Perico Ripiao, and it is the only thing they play (kind of a fast meringue) and the Trio will play different type of music

 

•What does the decorations for ceremony include for $348?

[sandra de la Cruz]-Up to 40 guests, sashes for the chairs, tulle for the gazebo, runner for the table, crystal vases with flowers for the aisle-These are extra decorations. They also have decoration packages for the reception too.

 

•Can I have a photographer other than the one offered in the packages-Tropical?

[sandra de la Cruz]-We, the resort work with Tropical Pictures for photography and Brightlight for Dvd, find attached the memo that explains our policies about photography / videography -There's an $300 fee to bring in an outside photograher

 

•Do you have any DJ recommendations?

I really value your opinion. I will have a semi-private dinner and reception on the tres carabelas terrace (they don't offer this anymore) with 50 guests. Is the bar in the restaurant of the tres carabelas close enough? Is it usually crowded early July?
