I am looking to get married November 2, 2010 but am having trouble finding a great location in west maui for a good price! Everyone wants like 2k just to rent a location for a ceramony. Beach is not an option for us because you cannot put chairs on a beach in Hawaii and i cannot make my elderly family members stand. We want the ocean back drop behind us, not bushes which most resorts have! Can anyone please tell me where they did or are getting married in west maui and didnt have to pay an arm and a leg! Thanks so much!!

How many guests will you have?

I'm getting married at Merriman's - Kapalua in June. The site fee was $500 for their grassy area overlooking the ocean/beach, but that particular area is probably too small if you have more than 40 guests. The Seahouse was about the same price I think..

Those are some of the more reasonably priced options I found. There were some nice options on Kaanapali Beach as well at some resorts, but you're not allowed to have professional photos taken ON the beach.. that was a deal breaker for me, but if that doesn't bother you - there are quite a few options.

If you have a wedding planner - they will definitely have suggestions.

Deanne with Precious Maui Weddings did a great job giving me options within my budget.

Stacy, you should ask Deanne to verify the photography on the beach information for you! We were there in June and Deanne informed us that the photographer just needs to apply for a permit to shoot on state/county land (ie..the beaches). It's possible things have changed in that time but it can't hurt to ask! Here's the website she gave us last year. I passed it onto our photographer and she took care of the rest!

Have you checked out any of the resorts directly? All of them have some sort of wedding packages that they offer and you avoid having to pay site fees or outside coordinator costs. A place like the Maui Prince has ceremony sites on the lawn, literally steps from the sand so you can still have the oceanviews in the background but not break the "rules". You can do their luau for your reception or rehearsal dinner, or go to another restaurant just for your reception dinner. As for pics on the sand, that's allowed if the photog has the permits. The chairs/arches etc on the sand are the problems, but as for getting photos taken, any reliable photographer out there can arrange for that.

I guess a lot has changed in the last year... My cousin was married down there 5 years ago and several things he did I can't do this year. Kaanapali is pretty restricted now -- no weddings on the beach, not even photography allowed. All other beaches are ok - except that no chairs on the beach are allowed anywhere from the sounds of it. I think that's all pretty new now though - I talked to Deanne (actually didn't trust her at first and did quite a bit of research as well). I'm happy now though - I found a great location at Kapalua Bay :)

Did you find your own photography rather than using hers??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
