I need a favor... Any past brides or current ones that have already received detailed quotes from Mayte willing to share or compare with me, can you please pm me?

I just received my quote and it was A LOT higher than I estimated or expected and something doesn't seem right.  almost like all the prices were raised by a lot.  I was hoping that a recent bride would be willing to share with me some of the numbers they were quoted to see if I either need to suck it up or cut things out of the list to scale down or if I'm indeed getting charge more than I should.

I have already written back to Mayte with questions, but I know it will probably be a week before I hear back and my FI is freaking out at the quote.

I know budget isn't something everyone is willing to share, but I feel so in the dark and don't know if my expectations were wrong or what.

thanks for any help!

Ah, yes, I will PM you. This was going to be an issue in my review. We ended up about $1,000 to $1,200 more than I initially expected. I feel some of it was my fault for not speaking up.... for example $200 for 40 cupcakes and a small top cake that we never even ate (and we gave the cupcakes away to jellyfish and resort staff bc we had so many extra)

I am sure that the more and more popular they become with destination wedding brides, the more they know they can charge... (but it is still WAY better than a resort!)

Would you mind sharing what pricing you received through PM? Mayte sent me the brochure for Jellyfish yesterday but I'm assuming it's all old prices because it's the one found on the website. I'd be really interested to know how much more things went up because I was expecting this to be relatively priced.

$200 for a cupcakes and a 10inch cake is about right. I spent a little over that for my daughters 1st birthday party at the bakery I ordered her cake and cupcakes from. On average bakeries charge $28 dollars for a dozen of cupcakes and as far as the cake goes they charge per serving per person which can range from $8 and up and on top of that they charge you for the design. If you order from a grocery store it's a different story you can walk out paying just under $50 for the same thing.

Would you also be able to PM me? Mayte did tell me they were coming out with new 2012 pricing soon (I guess the brochure is from 2009 so it is outdated and she said it's been awhile since they updated). So I am curious to see if this is new pricing as well.

Thanks!

Kaylin

I don't have a new pricing sheet per se, all I have is the quote she sent me with the specifics that I wanted... so I'd really hate to scare anyone by sending out my quote.  To be fair, my quote is for 70 people and has a lot of "nice to haves" that I will probably end up cutting out because of the cost. I expected my quote to be high...just not as high as it was.  I'd be happy to PM anyone and compare, I just don't want to scare anyone and I am still very happy with the Jellyfish, I just want to make sure things look accurate.  Does that make sense?

I emailed Mayte today to ask her if there were new prices and if so can she send me the updated pricelist. Whenever I hear back from her I will let you know.

We didn't even want the round cake, she made it sound like it was no biggie to just throw it in....but going over budget by about $1,000 isn't too bad, and I totally could have spoken up at the time.

I definitely think the prices will be raised the more and more popular the Jellyfish becomes. I know it has been growing in popularity over the years (Mayte just took over about five years ago)

I can't explain the feeling you will have once you see what a wedding factory some resorts are and how intimate and beautiful the jellyfish is, you will not be disappointed! Pretty much everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to and they all had a wonderful time!

Okay Girls,

So I just got an e-mail from Mayte asking me to call her or her boss as soon as I can in response to my e-mail about the updated price list. Apparently they weren't too happy about the FB group I started for JellyFish Brides because they feel that it confuses customers. Anyways she said that the prices have not changed. The only thing that has changed is the price per person for the bus which is now $6. She stated that they will be changing the Menu and prices but it will be for the year 2013. Mayte and her boss also said that anyone who has already received a quote for their wedding at current prices will be charged the current prices. She also said that some prices may vary regarding menus and entertainment due to customization of those services. Hope this helps.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
