Can't believe we're going to be down there so soon!

That is so exciting!!! I am in the same boat as you. Iplanned on using my ipod and already downloaded tons of songs, but a DJ would be so much less stress. PLLLEASE be sure to give us a review of Mayte's DJ and if you would recommend him. Good luck I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Hey ladies, my FI's cousin told us on the weekend that the JF restaurant has a security guard on location and carries a machine gun. For those of you who have visited the restaurant or recently got married there, did you see this security guard? Is this true? The last thing I want is my flowers girls to freak out over seeing a man with a machine gun, yikes!!

I visited the Jellyfish in April in advance of my November 14th wedding to make sure it was as awesome as I had hoped.  I had nothing to worry about.  There is an armed guard at the entrance to the parking area at the Jellyfish, but I don't think anyone will freak out about it.  It honestly made me feel a little safer and is simply to keep out any unwanted guests.  Some of the areas outside the hotel zone are at poverty levels and a guard is necessary.

Glad to know they are taking security measures!

I have a quick question for those who have had the Jellyfish wedding experience: we are having 80 - 85 people, is it still necessary to book off the entire restaurant for $1000? The thinking is that that's enough people to pretty much occupy the entire space...however, I would hate to get creeps staring at my guests and sneaking in....

Thoughts?

Are you planning on having it in the resteraunt or outside on the beach?  If you will have the reception in the resteraunt you will need to reserve the whole thing.  I think the bottom floor could probably hold about 50, then the rest upstairs.  For 80-85 I would have the reception on the beach - in which case who cares who is inside the resteraunt as you will have your own set up on the beach with dance floor and tents for seating.  (Estimates based on seeing the resteraunt last month and other brides pictures).  I would ask Mayte what she thinks, she has done weddings for over 20 years.

This question is for any of you that have already paid the deposit - I read earlier in this thread that Mayte makes you pay for the charges on both ends ($60) and many of you were saying that's crazy and you should argue. Has anyone won this argument??

My hotel (The Melia) is doing this to me now too and I'm really annoyed. I paid $30 on my end to send the wire transfer, and they also charged $15 on their end to pick up the wire transfer.... the Melia deducted this from my deposit. I think this is insanely unfair since I would have been more than happy to pay any other way, it's their choice to do wire transfer! Any thoughts???

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
