Jellyfish Restaurant

Meg... I just saw your videos and they made me tear up!  What a beautiful bride you were!

Thank you for sharing this amazing review, pictures and video.  Definitely helps confirm that we are making a great choice by using the Jellyfish for our wedding.  As of right now we are set up to have our ceremony at Melia and our reception at Jellyfish but after seeing your video/pictures I am considering doing both at the Jellyfish!

Is anyone else not hiring a DJ or having dancing and such? Will they still charge $400 for a sound system if that is the case?

I am having a wedding with about 15-20 guests, all family. Would just like an intimate ceremony, cocktail hour after while I get photos done, followed by a dinner with a set up just like Natalie's (long table). I assume paying for $5pp for cocktail hour, $8pp during dinner would be the cheapest route, and just let people order a la carte. Does everyone agree? There is no way my FI is going to agree to pay $400 to play music on our ipod during this time (we're paying for our wedding ourselves).

They charge $400 to use their sound system, so thats why most people are just paying $200 more to get the DJ.  It sucks, but there doesn't seem like another option unless you don't use it.. I figure it will set the mood having a DJ/won't have to worry about music/timing during the ceremony/reception.. and our guests are spending money to come to our wedding so might as well give them a party.

Thank you so much for sharing your photos and video! I love how you had lanterns, we are also going to do that. How did it go without a dance floor and just using the sand? I would love to not pay that cost as our wedding is on Jan. 7th 2012 and we already have 60 people booked, so I am thinking we may be better without a small dance floor.....what is everyone else doing about a dance floor if you are having your dancing/reception on the beach?

Scarletbride,

I absolutely agree that the cheapest way to go is paying for drinks and food a la carte.  And, like I said, having everyone sit at the same table was awesome!  Originally  Adam and I also wanted to just play our own ipod but plans changed the closer we got to the our wedding date...  No matter what you choose I'm sure it will work out :)

I have yet to hear someone's review of Mayte's DJ.... does anyone have info on this?? No idea if he is good, does good MC-ing, follows instructions well (when to play what) and plays good music? If anyone knows I'd LOVE to hear a review!

I'm not sure if the DJ will work as a MC.. I sent Mayte an email the other day about the DJ and she mentioned if we wanted someone to announce the wedding party she can have someone do it, if not we can pay an additional $50 to hire someone to MC.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
