Jellyfish Restaurant

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!! Mayte wrote me back and it looks like June 8 2014 is our wedding date!! I have a few questions though. I absolutely love the way this place looks, the pictures, what everyone has said about it and so forth. A couple days ago though my travel agent strongly urged me not to do my wedding outside of the resort we are looking to stay at (Majestic Colonial). Even though she had never heard anything about the Jellyfish, she stated it could be very dangerous to have everyone leave the resort and so forth. Does anyone feel that the ride or area was unbelieably unsafe? I have my heart set on this place but I am now a little nervous about what was stated and would really love some feedback. A couple other questions: -When did you start sending Mayte pictures of your ideas? How did you send it to her...by email chain? Pinterest board etc? - I know there are many options to choose from and add ons. I am just trying to get an idea on how much I am looking at spending for about 40 people? Would anyone mind sending me a private email to share any information on this. - Were you given a total ahead of time so that you know how much to bring and if there were any discrepancies etc? Thank you so much for any insight and help!!
In regards to safety, never even crossed our minds once we were there! Went back and forth between JF and our resort, many others went off the resort several times for shopping, exploring, excursions, etc. Taxi drivers were all friendly and courteous...although pushy to get repeat business. Just keep in mind where you are and be aware but don't disregard JF BC of that. They also have security there as a precaution but have never heard of them needing to use them. Congrats on getting your date, no regrets with JF!

First of all, Congratulations on your date!

Second of all, your travel agent sounds misinformed. Today, the area's economy and most of the population depends on tourism and they protect it fiercely. Every business has security and wants to make sure that people feel safe. On top of that the DR has 3 police forces one of which is strictly to protect tourists. Its called the PoliTur (or something like that). You can expect people to come up to you at public beaches to sell you necklaces and cigars and stuff, but petty theft is not excessive and if anyone is causing real trouble there is security and police all over them. Added to that, Jellyfish offers a service to pick up and dropoff guests to and from the resort, so your guests will never have to venture out on their own. I'm not saying that you and your guests should flaunt their possessions and be irresponsible, but having visited punta cana a few times in that past couple of years i would say they should act as they would in any city and they will be fine.

You'll find detailed answers to your other questions in the forum history, generally, Mayte likes to receive a PDF doc of your inspiration pictures a couple of weeks/months before your wedding. She can also provide you with a list of prices so that you get an idea of how much things will cost. I think she gives people a quote closer to the wedding.

Trying to have Mayte send me available dates for next summer. Her generic "brides" email response said that 2014 is almost completely full. Yikes!

Does anyone know what exactly is taxed? Another location I'm looking into only taxes food, alcohol, and entertainment.

Also, she sent the 2013 price list. I know the 2014 list isn't available yet. Does anyone know if I'll be grandfathered in the 2013 prices since that's what she sent me now, or will I obligated to use the new 2014 prices? I'm expecting at least 80 people so even a little jump in prices could mean a big chunk of cash for me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
