Our ceremony started at 5pm, and we had to start getting ready early--- around 9am. All of my bridal party and I got both hair and makeup done, and that took a long time. The photographer came to the room at 2pm, and we had pictures in the room and then we had "first look" photos taken at the resort. Our guests headed to the JF around 4-ish and we headed there around 4:30.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

The open bar doesn't apply to the entire evening... As the guests arrive, there's just a welcome cocktail served. Then, after the ceremony, a selection of your few chosen cocktails and beer. During dinner, just wine & beer. After dinner, the bar opens, so potentially, you'll just need it for 2-3 hours. I know for a fact Jellyfish prices for booze are the same or even a little cheaper than most resorts. From experience I can say that it was worth keeping an open bar, because those who drank, really drank cheesy.gif You could also keep a tab, you know your guests better. Does this help at all? I hope so, hehe!

What you should also be concerned about is snapping up a date - I just talked to Mayte yesterday and we're both amazed at how quickly the months are booking up, well into 2015!

Hugs from here,

Katya.

Thanks for the help! How much would you say you spent on drinks for the night and how many guests did you have? It seems like it might be doable from your advice but I just want to budget a number out!

Any other info from other brides?

Yes! I feel like I have the Jellyfish booked and that is the only thing I have committed to so far other than my WTA. Seriously don't know which resort to go with. I just want great food ( no sickness lol), beach, pool and kid friendly. Sigh the search is on.

Dreams Punta Cana (expansive free-form pool, excellent kids club, 5-star, more North so more quiet beach, beautiful gazebo)
Gran Bahia Principe (larger complex, great gazebos, 4-star, friendly/lively atmosphere)
Majestic Colonial Resort (free weddings, excellent service, 4.5 star, next door Majestic Elegance is 5-star)
Ocean Blue/Sand (homey atmosphere, quaint, central plaza, cool coffee shop, colorful buildings, 4.5-star, great service)
Paradisus Punta Cana (5-star luxury, 'The Reserve' is boutique resort within resort, northern location in Punta Cana resort area so more private, high attention to detail/service, feel spoiled, gorgeous beach gazebo)
RIU Bambu (4-star affordable, lively/fun, basic rooms, nice beach - more North so more beach space, clean/friendly, good food)
RIU Palace Punta Cana (5-star, elegant/ grandiose - like a real palace, glitzy, great food, everything central within resort, beautiful gazebo)
Sirenis Cocotal (4-star, great value for money, gorgeous and one of biggest beach, basic amenities but good service)

I have been doing alot of research on the hotel lately. I think that your travel agent missed a few resorts that seem to be quite popular with Jellyfish brides. In particular

Now! Larimar

Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe

Dreams Palm Beach

Secrets Royal Beach

There are others, but these 4, Majestic Elegance, Gran Bahia Principe, and Paradisus seem to be the ones that pop up again and again. Hope it helps narrow down your search!

I am getting married may 8th 2014.. and I have some crazy hair when its humid! I dont generally wear makeup- but i want to for pictures sake... HELP!!!!

Hey Kimberlyraem4,

I am much like you with the crazy hair thing. I have very curly hair and it's thick!!! I am using Anna Nuet who will be living in the DR come the end of June 2013. You can check out her facebook using her name or her website http://annanuet.wix.com/annanuethair She is really good at getting back to people quickly. She has an amazing repetoire from what I can see and I am really excited to have her do my hair and make-up.

Happy Planning!

Hey Past and Present Brides!

I need some help with pricing. I am wondering if anyone who is staying at the Majestic Resorts has, or is planning on having, a photographer and stylist come to the resort prior to leaving for the Jellyfish and what the vendor cost is (seeing as neither of them are staying there longer than 2-3 hours and we are not getting married on their property)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Rachel

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
