Jellyfish Restaurant

No, there are several options for the open bar selection. The cheapest option ($10/person/hour) is called the Local Bar and consists of only local alcohols - local rum, vodka, etc. No international brands like Chivas Regal or anything. Hope that makes sense :)

Hi ladies,

I know this has been discussed somewhere but I can't seem to find it. I'm starting to wonder about tipping... initialy, I was wondering how much to tip Mayte and/or the restaurant. Then I thought - do we tip Pastor Rick York? Do we tip the videographer? Do we tip Mayte's DJ? Where does it stop, lol.

If anyone could shed some light or, if you don't mind, post how much you did tip if you've been through it already, that'd be greatly appreciated!

So - overall, how much (if any) for:

Mayte

The Jellyfish

DJ

Videographer

Pastor York

Thanks!!!

Where is everyone? I thought I'd help bring this thread back to the top.

How is everyone's planning coming along?  We just hit double digits :)  I know there are some ladies that are less than a month away.

Also, I too have been wondering about the tip question Alex asked... any insight?  Thanks!

My save-the-dates are out. I'm waiting on Mayte to confirm that she received my deposit and my date is really all mine before booking my resort. We're getting quotes for Dreams Palm Beach right now. I'm still over a year away, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how everyone else's wedding pans out! :D

I just sent my "what I like" photos over to Mayte so now just waiting for her reply!  :-)

This weekend I'm going to have to choose the hotel and create a website to send out in place of printed save the dates.   So far I've requested and reviewed group contracts from both Dreams Palm Beach and Majestic Colonial but they aren't advantageous.   I'm an event planner by day and the cancellation policies are awful and I'm not willing to pay a nonrefundable deposit.  So I'm at the point where I think I'm going to just choose one and say every man for themselves in regards to travel.   If any of you have any opinions on either, I'm all ears!

Hey gang,

My fiancee and I are looking at the Jellyfish for the ceremony and reception.  We're also trying to find a good resort - any recommendations?  We're thinking Hard Rock or Dreams - we have kids and about 50 ppl.

Any personal views welcomed!

Thanks!

I'm curious to hear what the cancellation policy was for Dreams? We were supposed to go to the Dominican last year on a family trip, but my fiance had knee surgery a few months before the trip and was not allowed to fly. We were unable to attend and our portions were non-refundable and we couldn't even put that money towards another trip at the same resort. That was for the Princess All-Suites resort, but I'm assuming it must be similar?

Hi Rob,

I've never been to Punta Cana, so I'll start off by saying that!  Picking a resort can be a tough process, especially if you haven't been there.  Having the wedding at the Jellyfish though makes things easier because you don't necessarily have to find the perfect wedding resort and vacation resort!  We have chosen the Majestic Elegance and since then I've heard lots of our guests tell us that they know people who have stayed there and loved it.  I just met a friend of a friend and she and her hubby went on a trip to PC the year before their wedding and toured a bunch of resorts and settled on ME and they all loved it.  My sister's MIL just went to a wedding at the Majestic Colonial too and said it was great.  So we're feeling pretty good about our choice at the moment!  There are lots of great resorts out there though - good luck with the choice!

Oh, we've got between 60 and 80 guests coming and a handful of kids too.

I'm glad this got bumped, I was starting to miss it :) There definitely are a lot of great resorts. I have been to Majestic Colonial and loved it! I'm having my wedding at the Jellyfish but staying at the Melia Caribe which is next door. I haven't been but have heard many great things and it's also very kid-friendly for the families with young ones!

Still no one for my tip question?? :D I really have no idea who to tip and how much!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
