Wedding Band Dilemma.... advise please?

Recommended Posts

Congrats on getting your band Chris. I ordered mine from Mr Jewel on ebay. They were great to deal with and the ring is absolutely stunning (posted it on the show us your ring thread few days ago). Their price was super, not cheap by any means but a great deal. I now have a 3 ct eternity band instead of the 1ct I could get locally for the same price. Plus they called me a couple of times to let me know what was happening with the ring (diamonds being picked out/ready for shipping...)

Are you like me and want to wear it now instead of waiting? I'm so much a kid with a new toy. I wore it at work the day it arrived, but now its at a local jeweler being appraised.

Oh man, where were you when I was looking for feedback on Mr. Jewel? I was so desperately trying to get one about him. But the only way I could make sure for certain it would fit was to send my e-ring to him. I didn't feel comfortable but I did trust him, just not the mail. And I would have to have him polish it for $40 when Jared polishes outside jewelry for $26. His warranty is only for a year, where Jared's is lifetime (replacing stones, repair, including labor and materials and all that). Mr. Jewel is normally less expensive, but his white gold round channel eternity for. 85ct was $995 and Jared's .5 caret round channel in platinum was $799 (so I'm satisfied with my great deal). I think I'm going to get my anniversary band from Mr. Jewel. I just don't know if I want the shared princess prong or the channel in platinum. Also, if this were a perfect world with lots of money, I'd really like a tennis bracelet! I'm refering all my engaged to be friends too. I'm so glad you had a good experience. I can't wait to see your ring!

My e-ring is incredibly skinny (how I wanted it), so any band is a little thicker, but this was really close (you can see it's thicker because it sticks out a little past the e-ring), and I'm sure a half size smaller would have been a little closer, but I'm really happy it!

Wendy, yes!!!! I want to wear it now, they look so nice together. I love your band. Would you mind telling me after you get yours appraised if it is the same as Mr. Jewel said. Did you get Ideal cut?

Thanks! I have thirty days to return, so if your's come back with the same value as Mr. Jewel proposed, I may just take the plunge so I can get the princess cut channel (his is one of the only sites where the princess channel looks thin), I was just nervous because no one I could talk to ever used him before. If not, then mine is still awesome.

My ring was finally appraised today so I have it back (and of course am wearing it around the house tonight). The appraisal is for the estimated replacement value not for the certified retail value that Mr Jewel quotes. The replacement value was less than the retail value but was still more than I paid.

The customer service has been amazing. Isaac called me back and asked that I call him with the appraisal (haven't done that yet, will do it tomorrow). I'll pm you with the $$ amounts, don't want that all over the forum.

Wendy, if you paid the 40 dollars to have his people send a certificate (it's UGI I think) then you can probably use that as a replacement value for insurance. He says they are an appraisal company, and the more of a replacement value, the better your chance of replacement if you lose or damage the ring! If they didn't sent one, you could always ask to have it sent!

I have decided. I am Keeping my ring, I love it too much, but the FI will probably get one like yours for an anniversary down the road! YAY!

Chris, I think your band is gorgeous and looks PERFECT with your E-ring! Congrats on the great find.

I was sooo bummed because I had my wedding band (which is a wrap) custom made in Brooklyn and it was suppose to be ready on Sunday but it wasn't and she promised me that I can pick it up tomorrow. I totally can't wait to wear it! I laughed when I saw you girls are doing the same thing I intend to do and wear it to work and around the house. :) I can't wait!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
