Self Invites

I think you're just going to have to put your foot down and say NO MORE!!! Hopefully, some of these last minute people won't really make it (oooh, I sound mean there!), but seriously, lots of people end up WANTING to go to DI weddings and then end up not going.

Thanks for this thread. I'm having similar problems but not as serious. My cousin invited a friend of hers, yes I know her but never would have invited her. She's welcome to come but do I have to make an OOT bag for her etc. She aslo invited another family to come who were planning a trip. They for sure are not invited to wedding stuff at all.

Another somewhat friend said she didn't like Punta Cana and could we go somewhere else (umm she wasn't on my guest list since she complains about still paying off the trip to my brothers destination wedding).

lol thats funny.... yea i can't understand it. I mean would they do this if we were having a wedding in our current location? It really makes you wonder where these peoples heads are. Originally my bridesmaids was like can I invite two of my friends to come too (people who I didn't eve know!) And i was firm there I was like nooo its a wedding you cant just invite random people who i dont even know regardless of whether or not i'm paying for them

I'm having the same issue, I have people at work who constantly ask me about the wedding -_- I only invited 4 girls from work who I've become very close to. I figured if I tell people yes I'm getting married in October in DR they would just back off, but its like its just more interesting for them and then i get the "OMG, I've always wanted to go to DR. this is the perfect excuse".

Ugh why do people invite themselves!

Let's just all agree that when we are somebody's mother or FMIL, we will not pull this crap ;-)

Seriously...our invite list hit 207 (I don't even know that many people)...MOST of whom would definitely come to a local wedding. There is a reason people do destination weddings, why is that so hard to understand!!

Wow I so agree. This is what I kept telling my mom when she was asking me why would I go all the way to DR when all my family is here! Exactly thats the point! If I dont invite every single soul in the tri-state area the family is bound to talk. And if I do invite them every one will go. And I would be spending all this money on one day for people I hardly even know. Instead its only going to be 20 close family and friends for a week in Paradise!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
