Hi all, we are getting married 2/13 and have had some issues with using the vacation dollars to book tours. We were unaware that you couldn't book any of the tours before checking in, which is causing problems for man of our guests. We have some guests who are arriving the evening before a tour leaves (Chichen Itza for example), and by the time they are checked in (the day before the tour), the vacation planners desk will surely be closed. Has anyone found a waynaround this at all, or had the same problems? We have many guests who are afraid the tours they want will already be booked up by the time they check in a day or two before it departs. If anyone has been able to get around this, please let me know! Mostly, I just wanted to get it out there that Palace has not been accommodating with this at all, and I have been very happy with them up until this point. We have even offered tonpay for the tours up front justnto reserve our spots, and then be reimbursed in vacation dollars or whatever when we get there, which is apparently a no-go. Our guests (and us) are dropping thousands of dollars to stay here and have the wedding here. The points aren't worth much if most of our guests won't even be able to use them.

A lot of our guests were unable to use their vacation dollars.  Most ended up spending it on a limo ride back to the airport and tequila to take home.  With the tours they are only on certain days as well as the lobster dinner cruise.  It was on Friday and Saturday but we had our wedding and rehearsal on those nights so they were unable to go.  My husband and I were unable to use our either. We spent 5 days at MP but since we had guests there we didn't want to leave them so we didn't use it. We left on Sunday to spend two days on a mini-honeymoon at Le Blanc and even though it's a palace resort they wouldn't let us transfer our money over. And since we were only there 2 days it wasn't enough for a new credit (guess we should have stayed one more cheesy.gif). It would have been nice since we finally didn't have anything to do or worry about.  I would have loved a massage.  From what I can tell there is really no way around this.

We are having a similar problem. Our palace membership entitles us to 2 free trips per room for a week long stay, but we can't reserve spots until we arrive on site. I tried to book through Xesquivel, I'm going to ask our WC if she can help us out. I figured we should be allowed, especially since we have already paid in full. I haven't had an issue with booking salon appointments though.

Our wedding coordinator originally put us in contact with Xochil Esquivel to book things as well, however since he couldn't do anything for us, I emailed the wedding coordinator and told her we were willing to pay for tours up front and then be reimbursed by deducting them from our vacation dollars when we checked in or out, if that's what it was going to take.  She forwarded my email with our concerns to a supervisor, so if anything comes of it, I'll be sure to post, as it might be a solution for others, too.

Hey Vettiebean, the WC I spoke with didn't know about any events scheudled for Halloween. Maybe try calling the hotel's guest services directly to see what they have going on...

Does anyone else know if there are special events on Halloween? Would be so much fun! I am probably going to ask my guests to bring costumes either way! Impromptu costume contest? Thriller blaring through portable speakers? Suuure, why not?!? smile123.gif

For anyone thinking about doing a site visit, thought you might find this information useful. Palace resorts can give you a double occupancy Deluxe room for $226/night (that's $113 per person per night) for a max of 3 nights. Which is much cheaper than the site! Basically you have to fill out a form (I attached it here) and send it back. Then they'll contact and make the arrangements with the specific resort you're interested in. You'll have to pay extra for your airport transfers.

I'm planning to go down to MP next week, and will give you all a full report! Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can try to get them answered when I'm there. Thanks!

Hi DiamondGirl -- not sure what the Caribbean Terrace is... I didn't see that. Is that at MP DR? I went to visit MP Riviera Maya. I'll be uploading my pics very soon and have some of the Superior Deluxe Room in Sunrise that we stayed in (the Deluxe rooms were all booked up).

You're the best!! Thank You!! I've been wondering how to get a deal for a site visit. Would love if you can get info and pics on the caribbean terrace and pics on rooms at sunrise side. Can't wait to hear the details when you get back :)

Hi Akotha,

I just got back from Moon Palace and I had my photographers bring a projector and I rented a screen for about $40. (it might have been $44 but I can't remember). It ended up being windy so they brought out a flat screen tv and we didn't end up using it. Depending on where you are having your events you can just project it off the wall or in my case we used the ceiling. ;) Good luck!

I actually make these type of videos professionally, and it just seems wrong not to have one at this event!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
