We just got back from our wedding October 15 and did the reception dinner reservation at El Caribeno with 15 guests... and we LOVED it! I actually think a private event would have been an unneccessary expense given how perfect El Caribeno was for our group. The restaurant atmosphere was perfect for a reception. They set us up in front in the elevated part of the restaurant and all the other resort guests were down below, so it felt private to us. We had a separate bride-groom table and a cake table. The best part was a piano player palying music all through the reception, and he also played special songs for our first dance and our dances with parents. There was a large area that was good for dancing near the piano. It felt so special and we do not regret skipping out on a private function. Of course we were there during low season so it might have been different if the restaurant was full of people. The food was just okay but we found that didn't bother us at all.

Thank you so much for this!! I am so glad to hear that the piano player allowed you to do your first dance.  I was afraid that I had to forgo this kind of thing. =)

Has any past brides used Alex Marrufo from JSAV for a DJ or heard anything (it's the DJ that MP recommends)?  I just don't want to pay for any more rooms for outside vendors and would really like to have a DJ.  Any information would be helpful.

Also, thank you for the comments about the room nights.  Although there is still discussion about it my TA is fighting hard for us, so I will update ya'll when I find out the final verdict and if they give us our credits.

Unfortunately, it does not.  You need someone to stay a minimum of 3 nights for it to count towards the room nights.  At least that's what it says in my contract.  :)

So it's $568.00 for the Ipod setup. That is supposed to cover the ceremony and extended cocktail hour.  And I can't use my resort vacation dollars towards it.  Since we are only having a dinner, we will not need 4 hours of music, as required in order to have a DJ from the resort.  Yet, outside vendors are not allowed unless a room is booked for them.  Oh and there's a huge hurricane that has the potential to ruin my wedding.  Today is not a good day.

(((BIG HUGS))) I would be stressing out too!  I am putting positive thoughts out there for all the girls getting married out there in the next few days/week!!!

I thought the I-pod set up was cheaper?  :(  But I see that you decided on the extended cocktail hour, so that will be really fun for you guys!!!

Again, praying for you guys!!!!

Thank you Jamie, you are so sweet.  I thought the Ipod was cheaper too, but they are charging for the ceremony and the cocktail hours.  I just found out that a DJ is $130 per hour with a minimum of 4 hours.  That totals $520.  So a DJ is cheaper?  I am getting further clarification on this and will let you know.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
