I can see this happening to me... My bridal salon took my measurements when I was 8-10 weeks pregnant before I started showing, and we ordered one size bigger than that. However I had gained about 20 pounds from my regular plateau before I got pregnant, so once this baby's born, I have the baby weight plus about 20-30 pounds to lose. And I'm anxious to get started on that!!

But I guess it's easier to take the dress in 2 sizes than to let it out 2 sizes!!

Thank you for the offer and encouragement!  I am in Alberta though, but I did call the bridal store on Monday and made an appointment to try the dress on while the stores owner is in.  So hopefully she will see that it is their measurement error and do the alterations at a discount.  Otherwise, I'm taking my dress and my money elsewhere!!

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Kill them with sweetness, you'll likely get more help that way. And if that doesn't work...then walk!

  • 2 weeks later...

So I went to try on my "huge" dress for the second time since it came in,  but this time with the owner of the bridal store to show her the problem.   Amazingly, this time it fit perfect!  And the tacks/threads that were torn or missing last time were fixed!  My mom and I are certain that they switched the dress(4 other girls ordered the same dress that day as it was a trunk show).  How else can you explain it?  The store owner could offer no explanation to why it fit fine now other than that maybe we remember it being worse than it really was.  I don't think so!!!  We don't really care what happened we just took the dress and ran!  I will store it at my mom's for now and get the hem, bust and bustle alterations done somewhere else closer to my wedding date.  I was sick to my stomach thinking of having to argue about it and cut my dress all apart, but it worked out perfectly!  :)  Happy Bride!

Someone told me that the people at the store always recommend the larger size so that you'll spend more money in alterations. I was also between 2 sizes and went with the smaller one. My dress has a lace-up back so I figured I could always "unlace" it a little if it got too tight. I'm hoping I made the right choice, I guess we'll see when it arrives!

I guess I can always use more motivation to work out, lol

I don't know what their reasoning is but they definitely put their sizing up.  One of my bridesmaids is tiny and literally under 100 lbs and they suggested that she get a size 4.  She got a size 2 and good thing it came with those tiny straps that come on strapless dresses, otherwise I doubt it could hold itself up.

  • 2 months later...

Anyone else have some wonderfully reassuring stories they can share? My beautiful Blue by Enzoani Caldera dress finally came in and I went for my first fitting on the weekend... and it's huge!!! Gawd I want to cry. At the time I ordered, a 14 was too tight on me so I ordered a 16 though I knew it would be too big. But the shop owner assured me it was no problem to take in, and so much easier to take in than let out, so best to order the bigger size. Well I have lost a bit of weight since then so I really should have gotten a 14, or maybe even a 12! So happy with myself for being able to lose some weight but the dress is wayyyy too big now sad.gif  And the seamstress is telling me that because of the construction of the dress, she can do her best to take it in where she can, but it's not going to end up fitting me like it should. What?!?!?! She says this dress would have been easier to let out a little than to take in THIS much - this information is really useful to me now with my wedding less than a month away and no other alternatives!  I want to cry!!!!! I'm going to be soooo stressed out till I see it again. I'm praying for miracles...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
