regarding photographer, either local or flight in, the most important and essential anyone should look for in a photographer it is the photo style, do not try to push a photographer to change his/her pure style or photos may turn out something else you want, so my recommendation are:

-Research for a photographer and compare their style, packages, prices (but ina way that which one gives you the best for the price)

-Select some local and some to flight in (if the budget is not a problem basically will choose by style)

-Then if price is a problem eliminate the ones over your budget

Have in mind that nothing is better than a couple of good photos, at the end video is limited by time and one image may have 1,000 words, think twice everything is important but nothing lasts more than photos, even memories.

One more thing, photography is an art and it is not easy to compare photographer vs photographer, I would say almost impossible but you can choose the best that fits your style.

Well put. Also make sure you and your photographer mesh. It should be someone you're comfortable with. I always recommend an in person consult with my brides or a telephone consult.

Great photos Maura! I didn't see you post your slideshow from Moon Palace Ryan & Angela on Vimeo Hopefully this helps out some brides :-)

Good Luck! I would recomend to search more for an outside photographer, or at least ask for your photographer's name and you got to see the pictures taken by him, this is at least that you all brides must do, at the end the only memories are the photos, more than video because video vs photo is like compare a book vs the book's movie.

I was going to use Smilemarket for my photos, but they were too expensive even with the usage of the vacation dollars, plus they were very inflexible.  We are having a small wedding with only 4 guests and no reception and cocktail hour.  In order for us to have approximately 3 hours photo time plus a CD with all photographs we would have to pay $1,240 in which only $450 of that was covered by vacation dollars.  To me that was way to expensive for the small, simple wedding I was having.  Being that it was at the beginning of December when I decided not to use the resort photographer, I had to find a photographer quickly who was available.  We settled on David Pena.  I liked his style and he was available.  I plan on posting pics and reviews when I get back.

Here's the website to the resort photographer:  http://www.palaceresortsweddingphotos.com/gallery.php .  This also includes pricing.

Thank you for the input!  We are going to have at least 50 guests attend. I am scared to book an outside photographer and they don't show up or something happens and I am out a photographer for my wedding. Yikes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
