Renting a car?

Does anyone have any advice on renting a car?

I'm 24 years old, and it looks like several companies charge quite a bit extra if you are under 25.

Any companies you would recommend that have good prices? I'm going to be there for almost 2 weeks and don't want to end up spending a fortune for a car when it's very possible I'll never even leave the beach! :-)

I don't remember which company we rented from, but we did have to pay that under-25 fee. It's a bummer that they have that, since like you, it was only about a year from being 25. However, I say go for it. Having a car in Maui was such an added benefit. It allowed us to explore all the different places in Maui and we actually stayed 2 nights in Hana which was wonderful. To save money, what we did was only put (now lol) hubby on the vehicle for most of the trip and added me for only the day of the wedding in case I needed to drive between hair/makeup and getting to wedding location. Another option you have is deciding when you most want a car, or would want to do your travel exploring, and only rent a car for a portion of your trip.

It really was fantastic having the car though. We stayed in the Wailea area, but went up to Lahaina for sight-seeing and an awesome luau, traveled to Hana at our own leisure, explored up-country and Haleakala Crater for a day. Having the car really allowed for a lot of freedom that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Taxi's are quite expensive on the islands, we discovered from a friend and her parents, who, once they arrived at their condo decided to rent a vehicle after all, as well.

Good luck! If you do only desire to see the area in which you'll be staying then a car is likely not needed. Whatever you decide, Maui is beautiful and you will love it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
