Any 2012 Bride/Grooms to be out there??

Recommended Posts

Hi Norma,

Congratulations! I too just got engaged on May 1, and my fiance and I are hoping to get married in May 2012 - maybe Mem Day weekend. How did you decide on Mexico? How many guests will you have? Congrats again! I'm new to this site (and planning a wedding!) and welcome any and all advice.

Best,

Melanie

Congrats Melanie!  There are many threads for different destinations.  We chose Mexico because it is an affordable destination for our guests, there are many beautiful resorts that are experts at having destination weddings and because the flights take less time than flying to other tropical locations like Hawaii or the Mediterranean.  We were in Mexico (Cancun specifically) when we got engaged so we did site visits that week to narrow down our search.  Our criteria was based in part on a destination wedding we attended last year for some friends.  1.  Private ceremony location as our friends' wedding had strangers on the beach roaming near and around the ceremony.  2.  Reasonable prices for rooms and airfare.  3.  Beautiful resort with many activities and options for our guests to entertain them.  4.  Wedding packages that included everything we would want for our wedding.  5.  Lots of dining options at the resort for our guests.  6.  Resort that was all-inclusive so our guests would not have to leave the resort when they wanted to eat somewhere or have to bring money with them every time they wanted a snack or a drink.

I would recommend looking at threads and reviews of resorts on this site but also take a look at Trip Advisor to see what others have had to say about the overall stay at various resorts as you will find more reviews there.

Hope this helps to give you some ideas.  Happy planning!

Hey lovely ladies,

I am going to be a 2012 bride also, planning on getting married in Riviera, Playa Del Carmen or Cancun area. Like Some of you I am also thinking May or very early June 2012. I am from Australia but my partner is originally from Mexico, so for a destination wedding it's going to be quite large, around 120 guests!

We are thinking about one of the Dreams resorts for the venue, waiting to hear back from them. I would love to get some advice from other brides that might also be planning a larger destination wedding.

Wishing you all love and luck

Micaela

Im pretty sure you need to be in the Cancun area at least 4 business days before your able to legally get married there. My TA suggested we get legal documents/"paper work" done here before we leave at the courthouse to avoid the hassle. Then do a symbolic ceremony in MX. That way you can arrive and get married the next day, then spend more time with your guests and have those extra days at the end of your trip. She said that most do it this way to save a little money. The other idea is - My friend just got back from her wedding at Dreams Tulum. They arrived on Wednesday and were able to get married legally on Monday. ( that's technically 3 business days)

Congratulations Micaela!  120 guests - wow!  That will be nice to have so many people share in your special day!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
