What to do? Choice vs. Guest Price?

$1800 was a bit of a shock to me too when I first started planning! I've been to the Mayan Riviera twice and both times paid no more than $1500 for a week at a 5 star resort. But when you're booking a group you have to book in advance and therefore don't get those last-minute deals.

We chatted with our group of VIPs to see what they were comfortable paying. Everyone seemed to agree that $1600 was reasonable but they'd prefer not to spend much more than that. For us, it was more important that everyone be there than staying at our "dream" resort (Azul Sensatori...ah-hem). We chose our resort because it had everything we were looking for, great wedding packages, great price and I honestly don't think we'll be disappointed.

We're also considering switching to another resort for our honeymoon so we can get the best of both worlds!

welcome!!!!

how about you keep that same resort but maybe cut down on the days. instead of them staying the full 7 maybe cut it to 5. i'm pretty sure that will cut down on the price. I chose my resort on the fact that most of my guest won't want to pay that much...but honestly where ever we go we have a great wedding and a great time.

happy planning!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to BDW!

As for your dilemma, I think that would be based on just how many WOULDN'T come if it were $1800. If it's say...a handful out of 20-30 people, then so be it but if half your guests (esp people you REALLY want there) won't or can't come at that price, then you may wish to rethink it and go for somewhere cheaper.

I picked a place based on it having everything that I wanted and now I regret it. I should have gone with price. I realize now that I would have been happy at either place, so going with the lower cost one would have saved me added stress and heartache.

Are those prices that you are listing include the flight? That would make a big difference in term of accessibility for all.

Yes.. the 1800$ is 7 nights all included, flight as well. It's cheaper here in canada if you buy your package that way.

After a good night's sleep, I'm more inclined to stick with my first choice. Still waiting to hear back from one place.. but I'll give guests a price range and they will know what to expect. Thx for your thoughts!!

KRama: Wish we could get Azul sensatori at 1600$ LOL ... it's something like 2000-2100$ here!! wink.gif

Yep, the packages from Canada are typically for 7 days. I haven't really seen the option for less than that!

I think I was quoted like $2200 for Azul. Crazy!

Another idea is to give your guests the option to stay at a different resort and purchase a day pass to attend your wedding. Some resorts have "sister" properties that allow you to visit all of them free of charge.

Congrats and welcome to the forum! It really depends on what is most important to you. You should definitely have your wedding where you want to, but if having certain people there is more important than you may want to weigh that in your decision. I know for me it was finding a compromise on a place I loved but one that was going to be affordable for all my guests. I actually started my search by looking at prices first.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
