Help...I think I need a new TA!!!

Hello! Question for ya'll.....I have booked my wedding for November 22, 2010 @ Dreams Puerto Vallarta. I have been talking with a TA (also an acquaintance of mine)...she assured me that she would 'handle' all the travel arrangement for me. To make a VERY LONG story short......she is not getting in touch with the booking agent at the resort as I expected and as she told me and then she tells me that my guests will have to call the hotel booking agent to reserve their rooms once we "hold" rooms at the resort. Uugghh.....!! I just want to make it very easy on my guests...I have guests coming from all over and I want them to be able to all go through one TA and book their rooms and flights (if that is what they choose).

I was hoping to list my TA's contact information on the Save The Dates , this way everyone can call / email her to get travel arrangement initiated??!!

Am I way off base here?? Is there something else I should be looking into? OR, does anyone recommend a good travel agency / agent in the Houston, TX area that I could contacthuh.gif?

Thanks ladies!!!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer!
I think you definitely need a new TA. I have had some issues with my TA as well, but she is absolutely taking care of booking everyone's room and even arranging their tranfers and tours, if they choose. I put all of her information on my Save the Dates and she has been in touch with each and every guest. The only person who has spoken with the actual resort is my TA. I agree, it's important to make this easy for the guests! Best of luck!!

I don't think you are off-base in that you want one central, experienced person with whom to work.

I would end this relationship now if this is any indication as to how she will handle things during the rest of your planning. Have you put down any deposits?

I would look for an experienced DW travel agent. That person does not have to be local to you - so much can be done over the phone and with e-mail. Planning a DW entails so much more than just a regular trip. I went through my local TA and after reading about other experiences on BDW I found out that my planning could have been a lot less stressful had I had a TA that specialized in DWs.

We have great TAs that are members of the forum! I would book through one of them.

I am working with one of the TA's from BDW- Wendy with Wright Travel. She has been AMAZING so far. We have a pretty big group, and not only has she booked all of them and taken care of questions, she even did a rate adjustment for the whole group when the rates went down last week. I HIGHLY recommend her.

I'm still in the beginning stages but i'm using TA Jill from here also. I know I can be a little impatient and clueless...but she's been extremely patient and helpful. Not to mention we don't live in the same state. But I don't need her to live in the same state i'm just grateful she is knowledgeable enough to know about DW and everything the comes along with it.

It's hard to use a friend or an aquaintance as a TA because if you don't feel that they are doing their job properly then it can be uncomfortable to confront them! I have a friend that desparately wants to be my travel agent, but she lives in a different province and I just think I want someone who is not a friend and is local to deal with! I would suggest finding someone else as well because it will be easier for your guests to have one person to deal with to do all the bookings!

dont know about a TA around you BUT i had a local TA and it was not a good fit, to say the least!!! so now i'm working with TA Jill from the forum and i love love love her!! she responds super fast, even the same day. and she got us quotes very quickly. all of the guests can just go through her and i don't have to worry about keeping up with anything! i feel like if you have a TA, you shouldnt be dealing with any added stress related to wedding travel. good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
