Good thing you posted this. She told me that your prices had gone up and warned me the same might happen to me. She sounds convincing (esp because the price she quoted me for my resort is low) but at the same time I feel like within the next 12 mths, I can at least get that same price if not lower.

Have you shopped around a bit?? I still really feel that the pricing is just coming out now, and if we're all a little more patient it will drop. I've been checking pricing for around Christmas time, and it's around the $1500 mark, which is what we're hoping for. It doesn't make sense that Christmas time would be less expensive than early next year (i have studied travel and tourism).....our one TA quoted us $2100 and was very firm that the pricing wouldn't drop at all from it's first release....I'm still holding out. Pricing always drops to encourage people to travel, especially for AI resorts.

I`m so glad I found this thread! I`ve been having the same stresses as everyone else. My fiance and I got engaged on Christmas day and have now started to seriously look at setting a date for our wedding. The only problem is that we`re getting nowhere with our TA.

It was so hard trying to pick a resort since we`ve never been to Mexico before so I just told her my requirements which sounds like everyone else. $1500 taxes included for a 4.5-5 star that allows for some water activities and good food. Instead of narrowing it down by price, she asked us to pick a bunch of resorts that interested us and she`d get us quotes. She is the one that told us the best time would be the first two weeks of May. (Her logic was based on process of elimination. Because prices would be high in December for holidays, then February is reading week, then March break, then Easter so that brings us to May. Which is before June which is hurricane season)

So based on that, the best quote out of the 4 that she`s sent so far is Puerto Vallarta for May 7th. It`s $1589 all inclusive for Dreams Puerto Vallarta. Does anyone know if that`s a good price from Calgary
I've travelled to PV for lower when I went but I think the Dreams there is 5star, right? It doesn't seem like a bad price but I think you might find it better still. Which company where your packages through? Which TA did you get a quote with? I'm waiting for my January quotes but we're going to the Dominican.

Lindsay -- I think she's full of sh!t to be honest. The prices are the same on itravel2000.com and Ashley is saying that prices are coming DOWN! Anyways, I'm going to wait until the bride's bash to see what deals there might be...

I've just requested quotes from my TA for Valentin Imperial Maya for anytime between Jan & May 2011 in hopes of getting a great price sometime in that period (I was also told that end of April, early May has cheaper rates).

In reading your posts, I feel like this pricing roller coaster is like a bad game of poker!!!

The Gambler song by Kenny Rogers just popped into my mind ... "You gotta know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away, know when to run (...)" lol

CRAZY!!!

You know it's funny, I think it's a 5 star but for some reason I don't know for sure. You'd think I know after reading 100 pages about Dreams PV but I still aren't for sure. Depending on the site you're on it changes.. or maybe I'm just dumb. Can anyone confirm if Dreams PV is 5 star?? You'd think it'd be important to know...

The quote we got is from Sears Travel and it's going through Sunquest. And it's a very good point, I don't know if it's the preferred tower or not. Although I think it's safe to assume that it's not...

Shoot!!!! It sounds like we're back to the waiting / asking for more quotes game....

I have just received quotes from a bunch of TA's for Apr 3-10. The best deal I can get is $1960 for Toronto to Cancun at Moon Palace. Fortunately, they do allow a one time price adjustment. The catch is that the tour operator is Sunquest, and right now their price for the week is really $2500! They agreed to price match to $1960 so we could get a price adjustment guarantee - I wonder if the price adjustment would really amount to anything since Sunquest seems so noncompetitive right now...

I am struggling with whether to go with this deal now to get things settled, or to wait for a couple more months hoping for prices to drop...

So we received another quote from the TA today, $1800 including taxes....we'd have to have 10 people locked in the next week, and then the offer gets extended to everyone else but they have to be locked in by Aug 15. She tells us if we wait the price is going to go up by $800/person....I'm still not convinced that a group rate is the way to go.

barbiegirl - I am still waiting for a quote, but it seems this group rate stuff won't work for me!! How is this even possible to work with "Save the Dates"? Do you even send them or just scramble with invites? You have to have them locked in by the next week?? I just don't get it. Ugh.

We actually sent out Save the Dates back in Feb. We hadn't even reserved a wedding date at the time, we just put the date as Feb 2011, location Mayan Riviera. We hadn't even settled on a resort then, we just wanted to get the word out as soon as possible. We've also set up a website which I updated whenever anything new pops up, like actually setting a date, or getting pricing. As of right now, we've told people they are on their own for booking (unless we should get a really great deal with a group rate!), but to just let us know by Christmas if they plan to come but are waiting till the last minute to book. We've seriously gone back and forth over the pros and cons of using a TA.....unless we get a wicked deal, I personally think we're best to all book ourselves.
Oh thing I forgot to mention above with the quote, the TA said that we can only take advantage of one price drop, so if you're going to do that you want to make sure its a good one (so it's pretty much a gamble!). I thought it was interesting that she talked about taking advantage of a price drop, but then went on to say that if we didn't take this deal it was going to go up by $800.

I have a girlfriend who did a DW last year, and she's been super helpful with any questions or concerns I may have. She told me that they ended up just having people book themselves but kept everyone aware of prices as she found the best deals! She said most people waited until a month or 2 before the wedding, and even had one person turn up the day before b/c they were able to get a last minute deal!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
