Woohoo, glad to hear! Did you check Majestic's site or an external vendor?

I just started checking itravel2000, selloffvacations, etc. Looks like the prices are pretty much the same. Still shopping around for group rates with TA's! I'm just excited that the actual prices are out and not just estimates now :)

Are you putting down the deposit yourselves and estimating how many rooms you'll need? OR Are you calling/emailing your guests and telling them they have to put a deposit down if they want to go? My TA did say that if you need more rooms than the number you put the deposit down for then you can get them, but the rates aren't guaranteed for them, meaning they may increase. My FI and I don't feel comfortable putting down a deposit on a certain number of rooms based on the people that say they will be coming, because they may change their minds and decide not to come. I just don't want to lose that money. Just wanted to know what everyone else is doing.
I just wanted to let you know that I'm staying at an iberostar too but in MX and the group rates from the resort were barely discounted. TA said it used to be that you get a great discount for booking large groups but it's just not the case anymore. She said that although w group booking you have the security of the resort selling out, your guests will almost always get a better deal booking individually. For this reason we decided to book individually. I don't know if that's true across the board but worth having your TA look into for you.

Hey girls, got some quotes from a TA. Still awaiting quote from Weddings by Oceans. Want to go with them as they have more experience than a regular TA but they're a little less responsive. Anyhooo.

For week of May 8th, 2011

Majestic Elegance - $1262CDN + tax (not sure..probably $300-350)

Paradisus Punta Cana - $1278CDN + tax ($329)

Excellence Punta Cana - $1449CDN + tax (not sure)

Still awaiting a quote for Dreams Palm Beach.

They're higher than I want, I'm thinking $1500 ALL IN absolutely max so Excellence is off my list now. Would love to go with Paradisus but their wedding packages are very expensive...

Hi everyone,

I am confused! I am looking to book my wedding for Cancun/Riviera Maya either the last 2 weeks of Jan 2011 or the first week of April 2011.

I have visited a couple of travel agents and rec'd conflicting information about whether Jan or April is cheaper. My preference is to have the wedding in early April (Easter is late April so we would avoid that), but would consider January if it is significantly less expensive.

I think that generally January is cheaper than April, but since the prices haven't been finalized yet it's hard to say. It's pretty frustrating having to wait for them.

Not to confuse you more, but our TA told us that Jan was high. We're getting married the beginning of Feb, but the flights would have us leaving end of Jan....she said if we pushed out date down by a month it would be much cheaper. BUT she also told me that the prices wouldn't drop at all....and I just don't believe that. We're sticking with our original date and just hoping for the best!

I have noticed some prices are now out on itravel2000 and redtag vacations....but they are still REALLY high! It's super frustrating waiting, but if it means getting a better deal its worth the wait!

I have heard from one travel agent that April is a "transitional" time for the travel companies meaning this is when they switch between winter and summer packages / scheduling. Therefore, there is a stronger likelihood that your flight or hotel stay may be bumped around. I'm not sure just how much of a concern this should be but. Plus, Easter is during April and apparently it can affect travel / service in a lot of areas. Again, I take this with a grain of salt but it is something to keep in mind.

It feels like such a crapshoot... we are also leaving around January 30th and it's so hard to know when to book. I have one TA who is saying book NOW NOW NOW and another who doesn't think it's a problem to wait until early June to see if the prices come down. Who knows... the prices are still too high for my liking, so we are waiting one more month to watch the rates.

Barbiegirl_27 -- I notice you are from Halifax. We will be having a number of guests flying from Halifax and I'm worried that there might not be direct flights to Punta Cana at the end of January. Do you remember seeing direct flights from Halifax in the past? Hopefully my guests will not have to connect... ah I can't wait until we settle this stuff.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
