Barbiegirl, it took 2 weeks for Air Canada to give us quotes, still waiting for others. Be patient, lots of time...

I am looking for another dress, I should have tried the style of the dress before I ordered it. It will definitelly be strapless...Let me know...

Margret, that's a shame! Maybe you could use this dress for a TTD session?!?!?!

I will be patient! Thanks for the heads up! Now that I've secured the wedding date I'm able to stay calm.....now i just wish people would stop asking if there's any developments with the wedding! lol

I'll keep you posted on the dress! I hope it arrives soon!!!

Thanks CND_Redhead, that's what we're going to do! I'm not set on a date so if going a week later or earlier saves my guests money, that's what we'll go with. Are you in Toronto? If so, mind disclosing your TA? wink.gif

barbiegirl_27, did you end up switching away from Maritime or are they the 3rd?

We still haven't gone to a travel agent yet. Things have just been so busy but we really need to get on it! Lol.

Bikegirl-- I'm north of TO. Orangeville, but we used Marlin Travel.
We originally were drawn to Marlin b/c if you've got enough Airmiles points saved up you can redeem them for vouchers towards your trip. Each 360(roughly) points get's you $50 off.
I've had no problems with our TA. We also went to a Flight Centre and the TA we dealt with there was nice too.

Bikegirl.....Maritime Travel are our 3rd try at a TA. I did a search on their website to see if there was a local agent that specialized in weddings, and there are 3 just at the mall by me. When we popped in there was just one lady there, but she was one of the 3 specialists. She said she plans about 12 weddings a year, and already has 4 on the go for next year.....we're hoping we've found our final TA!

Yikes, I just got a quote for Dreams Palm Beach for the week of March 12, 2011 which is Ontario's March break and it is $2,384 with taxes. This is the earlybird special, if we don't book and pay by July the prices will go up $635 per person. There is no way the price should be over $3000 whether it's March break or not. I told my TA to check again in June and that I'm not locking in prices until they are closer to the $1500-1700 range which I am told probably won't drop to that until the fall.

I would have a very hard time waiting until the fall to book a group package. Are you having a lot of people at the wedding?
I was quoted about $1700 for a couple places in DR & Mexico (4 & 5) star for Jan-March. $3000 seems rediculous! We were quoted Bahia Pricipe DR end of Jan for $1600 from Flight Centre & Marlin Travel.
Have you thought about trying a differnet TA? or resort? (sometimes the Dreams/Beaches ones are overpriced due to commercialism)

Just a thought.
Best of luck,
Cheers,

Yikes is right! That just doesn't seem right! Is that just for a regular room....not for the honeymoon suite or something righthuh.gif I would definitely not be locking down at that price.....I would wait and maybe shop around!

Alright Ladies, I've received my first quotes from Maritime Travel and I'm now totally freaking out. She's saying it's going to be about $2100/person from our various spots in Canada. If we wanted to fly direct from Halifax it would be about $400 more.....I'm seriously freaking out about telling people this price. She said she really doesn't expect the prices to drop at all, in fact she expects it to go up if we don't pay our deposits by Aug 31. She also said it's this high b/c of when we're going.....if we were going later in Feb it would be cheaper.

Barbiegirl...that includes flight, right? If so, that seems about normal for the prices that are out right now. However, my TA said prices "should" drop later in the summer, as the resorts start doing specials and making deals to get people to book. I have the ability to lock in the lower prices when they fall, which eases my mind a bit. Are you able to do that?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
