Hi Barbiegirl,

I am following you...lol..

I am waiting for my quotes from my TA which is Maritime Travel. They are based at the Bay where I work and I know her really well. Nothing concrete yet...she said it would take few days for them to respond. Let me know if you get your quotes as are travel are pretty close.

Um, yeah right!) then she recommended their Group Sales consultant near me but apparently she's not in person, you just e-mail/phone her (defeating the purpose of using a local agent!)

I'm a little frustrated. sad.gif

I'm not in Toronto but my FI went to a Flight Centre in the Newmarket Mall and she got us quotes for Jan/Feb of 2011-- I'd go bug them again, or find a different TA as the prices can be found. I though I was early too but I'd rather know that far in advance so I can get my group informed! Hoping that might helpm more of them to come!
I'm using Marlin Travel,

Best luck
:)

Margret, you are following me! That's cool! maybe we can help each other out!

I love your resort btw! I had wanted to go there, but our TA came back with outrageous prices for it.....although I did go ahead with Dreams without having a clue about the prices for packages.

Is everyone looking for group rates? or do you think it might be a better deal to book through red tag, selloffvacations, or itravel2000huh.gif I'm worried we'll get people locked into a group rate only to find it A LOT cheaper through one of those companies!

barbiegirl 27, thanks so much! i just checked and apparently we do have Maritime Travel locations in Toronto. i'm not so worried about online/phone only agents but i had to consider my guests. do you have that MT's rates are competitive to say...itravel2000, selloffvacations, etc?

as for the group rate vs booking individually - if you book individually, how do you ensure guests are all booked into the same area of the resort? not such a big deal with smaller resorts but with a larger resort, i'd definitely prefer the wedding party to be near each other.

it does seem you can get a cheaper deal booking individually but have you checked into option of refund should prices drop?

Hey Bikegirl!

Check out Weddings by Oceans: Destination Weddings | Beach Weddings | Island Weddings | Destination Wedding Specialists | Destination Wedding Packages

They are located in Richmond Hill. I've been dealing with Ashley, and so far she's been great with communication by both e-mail and phone. I got some quotes from her for February 2011, and so far they have been a little high, but pretty much the same as every other travel agent's group rates so far.

They are also having an annual Brides Bash in May 2010 for people who have booked, or are thinking about booking with them. This includes a free lunch and some sort of tradeshow/information sessions. I haven't decided whether I am going to book with them yet because I'm still waiting for the actual rates to come out, but so far I like how they have have dealt with me.

Let me know what else you find and when you decide on the resort! =)

We just switched our date until the end of March 2011(we are both teachers so our spring break). Initially we were going to get married on Christmas break 2010 and was only able to get one quote so far (however that was a month ago now) and I found it a little high for Cuba. I'm not liking this waiting game either. We are actually headed to Cuba in ten days for this Spring Break so I'm looking forward to checking out a few resorts the TA recommended!

uggh i got a rate back from Air Canada for The Royal Playa Del Carmen for May 2011 - was very high, especially after taxes. ($2100 + taxes) TA says I could wait a bit and see if it goes down....I don't think it'll go down enough for us to feel better about asking people to go....I feel a little guilty for "making" everyone fly out for our wedding....we're willing to splurge (we've been to the resort and love it) but don't know if our guests are so willing....

Also, trying to have a ceremony on a Sunday limits the resort options. well, back to the brochures and webistes I go.......

Barbiegirl,

I love your hotel as well, it was one of my choices when I was looking. I just found the rates were much higher for Dreams. I usually check Tripcentral or Selloffvacation for comparison. Based on their that I've chosen Grand Riviera/Sunset Princess Hotel.

lol, we are just winging it.....our TA has taken forever to get back to us (i've been waiting for 2 1/2 weeks now to hear back from her) and we just really wanted the resort chosen so we just picked one! It's been a bit stressful since b/c now all our relatives are freaking out about prices even though we don't even have any yet!

I'm going to give guests the option of booking through the TA (i hope she's better at getting back to them than she has been with me!) or individually and just let them know if they go on their own I can't guarantee their room won't be in the same area.

If I hadn't managed to secure a wedding date I would have been heading down to Maritime Travel.....they were highly recommended to me AFTER we got with this TA (who is a friend of the family!)

Thanks ladies! I'm going to check out Maritime Travel for sure. Their website is very informative about the different resorts, too!

I did check itravel2000.com and selloffvacations and there are some really good deals and some really EXPENSIVE packages, too! Wow. It's all so much info to take in. It seems Punta Cana is the cheapest so I think we're going to go with that. The prices are so deceiving with our killer taxes. $800 suddenly becomes several hundred more!

Another question (i'm full of them!), did you ladies decide on a date before looking at prices or after? Originally I was thinking Apr/May. However, it seems March is actually the cheapest month for PC at least, this year. I'm surprised as I would've though spring break time is one of the highest priced.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
