What price is acceptable?

Recommended Posts

I would agree with the other ladies - We really looked at the potential guest list and the financial situations (Generally speaking) in deciding. I think no matter what price point you are at - there will be people who won't go because of the cost.

I feel as though someone who can pay $1500 can likely pay $1700 - provided they are given notice far enough in advance - ours was about $1700 out of Toronto and $1850 out of Calgary (taxes included) for the week .. we had 60 ppl.

I think that is totally reasonable. Calgary prices are always a little bit more than toronto - I think if that's the one you want you should go for it.. further to my comment above - if people cannot afford 1680 they likely cannot afford something a few hundred buck less!

one main thing to remember is people are going to complain no matter what.

depending on the location i think $1000-1500 range is typical for an AI 4+* resort. anything more than that you will find guests really complaining.

we choose not to do a group rate quote because they were asking for $500 more per person compared to if we went online and booked the trip individually. i didn't think that was fair to ask our guests to pay that much more money.

it may mean a few less people might come to our wedding because they had to find their own travel arrangements, but i think spending a few minutes online booking yourself or calling a travel agent is worth it over spending that much more money so we could all fly together on the same trip.

so far most of our guests have been happy we did it that way, they all found great deals and got to pick & choose which dates to travel and what city to fly out of.

good luck!

i can't believe it was more with a group rate, i always thought you were suppose to get a deal that way! any idea why it was more expensive?

We are going to Cuba, we booked a group rate with a TA, and we got an excellent deal. We are going to a 4* in Cuba for 7 nights, flying out of Toronto, and it was $850 per person plus $200 in taxes - per person it works out to approximately $1050/1100 per person which IMO is GREAT!

Course, we had to book the rate in October, and final payment was due in February - so its going to depend on your guests. You can get reasonable rates - but you have to be willing to look for them, and be willing to bully your guests into booking early if there is a booking deadline.

Also keep in mind the size of the resort and the number of guests you have - if you have a small guestlist it might be worth it to allow everyone to book thier own trips last minute. However, if you have a large guestlist - the resort might fill up, and it would suck for your guests to have to find another resort.

Personally - I wouldn't pay more than $1500 per person for a weeklong trip, not if I can get a great vacation for less somewhere else.

I can get this resort for cheaper but because most of my people can't come up with the money for the early booking bonus, I've had to switch airlines. My TA says that they only have direct flights out of Calgary once a week, so should I just tell them to book it themselves or do you think I should just book this, the quote expires in a couple of days. I don't know what to dohuh.gif

If it helps, we paid the deposit for our guests to hold x number of seats. They then had to call and make thier own travel arrangements and pay thier own deposits before the final payment date - maybe you can do something like this to hold the cheaper rate?

When is your wedding??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
