So I am originally from St. Louis and almost all of my family still lives there. My FI is from Chicago and all of his family live there. We will both be done with grad school in May and don't know where we will get jobs or will be living. So I'm not really sure where we would have the AHR.
He's not very close with about half of his extended family, but I don't want to exclude anyone. I'm toying with not even having an AHR. Any thoughts?

I dont know either area well, but it seems you could do cheaper in St Louis. I suppose if you found somewhere 1/2 way you could do a luncheon and ppl would not have to get hotel rooms?

My FI and I have lived in LA for nearly 20 years, parents in different states on the east coast. We thought we had a great idea of having a destination wedding, and then the AHR came up. Mom wants it on the east coast, but thinks we should have a second in LA for our friends here. Anyone else doing 2 receptions.

Hi! Just a quick question, are you having a big destination wedding? Or keeping it small and then having a big at home reception afterward?  My fiance and I are sending out the save the dates this week for our April wedding.  We expect approx 75-100 friends and family to attend our wedding in the Dominican Republic but still want an AHR in NJ in June for close family and friends who aren't able to attend (obviously we don't know who they are yet because we're sending save the dates out this week).  Just curious if you all are doing something similar.
