Not going all out with decor

Recommended Posts

I am spending more on OOT bags and minimal with decor. I don't want to go without but I want to save by not using their flower$ and just having a few paper/fabric pieces(easy to pack) that guests can take with them. No extra linen, sashes etc.

As of now we're not planning to do too much. We're using the color that comes with our package as one of colors, so that cuts down on most of what we'd need to bring. We're thinking some tealight candles because they are a heck of a lot cheaper than getting them at the resort, our OOT gift bags will be the largest expense for what we're bringing down and then I'm thinking about upgrading my flowers to get my dream bouquet...but I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. Most important to us is the OOT bags, we really want to do that for our guests.

don't worry about it.

we are not bringing anything extra down with us either for decors.

the only thing we are doing is bringing silk flowers for the BM's bouquets and we are having peacock boutonierre's for the guys. we are bringing them back home for our AHR 3 weeks later to save money.

we might hire the mexican band to play our wedding...but that is still yet to be decided as well. and depending on how many guests we might buy something local like maracas to use a wedding favours.

we even decided not to have a private reception afterwards because there are so many great areas of the resort for us to go for FREE and celebrate.

the scenery is one of the major reasons we choose a DW...and we wanted our photos on the beach.

We originally weren't going to bring anything (except OOT bag stuff), but as time goes by we've found a few things we'd like to have. We're spreading stuff out between people to bring & aren't doing things like linens/chair sashes (though it'd be a lot lighter if we were doing that instead!).

Our resort doesn't include any centerpieces & I found these votive holders on sale at Crate & Barrel over the holidays so I grabbed em (12 in each color)

I also saw this pic & wanted to make something like the shell curtains in the background, but I ended up finding them online. Only problem is they're too wide to fit in any of our suitcases so we have to ship them via FedEx or UPS. Hopefully they'll make it there intact!

Finally, we're using Mexican Talavera tiles for our place cards so I ordered 20 different 4x4 tiles, painted the backs & will use a silver metallic calligraphy marker to write names on the backs.

The great thing about DW's is that there's no wrong way to do it! Each wedding will be gorgeous regardless of the decorations just by virtue of being in a fabulous location!

Hi there,

I was lucky to attended two destination weddings in jamaica in October. My cousin married on the 13th, and my sister married her husband on the 15th. One went with the $700 package, and the other went all out... all the bells and whistles...

what was funny to me is that both weddings were equally beautiful and the larger package cost was for more extras like massages and breakfast in bed and stuff. A lot of things my sister didn'tt pay for got added on for free from the resort as they were really going out of their way to make her happy.

I decided for my wedding to stick to a lower package and spend my money on a photographer as the ones offered on the resort were not great and the pics were not good quality (and there were no good poses or ideas!)

The wedding ceremony is short.. about 30 mintues and then you have to move off location b/c they have other weddings to prepare for so a lot of the extras are a waste of money (in my opinion)... the resort is so beautiful and you move to so many locations for pictures that you really dont' need to go all out...

hope that helps :)

Amanda

Thank you so much for posting this. I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with thoughts about "needing" to do this and that. I don't think I really want to go all out on decor, but felt like a "should" because of other posters on here. Lots of decor is great for some people, but not my fiance and me. We planned our wedding this way so it would be low key, but with the seemingly endless list of to-dos, its not so easy to plan.

I also forgot to mention about our OOT bags. Instead of bringing them with us and seeing as it was so close to Christmas, we made our rounds to our families to pass our the OOT bags. It was nice way to see everyone during the holidays and everyone loved the bags! I only had to ship out 3 bags to guest who live out of town! I found this a really great way to do it. Of course, it all depends on where everyone lives who is attending your wedding.

I love the way the shells look. That is really pretty.

By the way I am so glad I posted this. I feel like I can somewhat breath again. lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
