I was also planning a wedding there in Nov, but now I am having second thoughts about the resort ?!? ... It doesn't have the best rating on Trip Advisor, my travel agent said there are better places to get married ... :o/ ... She said Dreams and Palladium, but we weren't keen on their layout, we wanted a big pool. Other people say RUI, but we also didn't like their big buildings. For Barcelo Tropical I read reviews of hard bed, poor food, low quality alcohol, smells and mold ... not to mention the 2006 Barcelo Beach story, which you may not want to look up :o/

One tip, if you have not been in touch with them, CALL THEM to book your wedding day 011 52 984 875 15 00 (try to get to the front desk, then ask for the wedding coordinators, we got bumped around about 4 times til we got there) ... I was told you had to request your wedding date and time by email, but when I tried I never heard back, so I had to call. I heard that they are not great when you try to email them, but when you get there everything goes like clockwork and the flowers, spa, tables, chairs etc are very nice. (you will need to know what wedding package you want when you call/email to book your date and time - I got the document with the options from Erika at sac5.op6@barcelo.com)

Let us know if you book there. If anyone has other suggestions/recommendations, please let me know :o)

Hi,

I have shot a lot of Weddings there (And once more next week). What best to give you an idea than have a look at a photo-gallery: Barcelo Maya Weddings

An Advice? The best moment for the ceremony is 1h before the sunset. (around 4:30pm on November). Earlier is to warm and you will have the best light for the portrait session just after the ceremony.

I'm a Barcelo Palace Bride myself. I know quite a bit about the resort and weddings there and I've also gone down for a site visit last April so let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to know. There's a ton of information on the forum about the Barcelo Resorts so I would suggest you do some searches to help you with your decision. Here's one thread that I find extremely helpful. Just a warning that it is pretty LONG, but read through it and I'm pretty sure it'll have the answer to about 95% of your questions:

Here is another website that you should also check out:

UNOFFICIAL BARCELO MAYA | Unofficial guide to Beach | Caribe | Tropical | Colonial | Palace

They have information, photos as well as a discussion board/forum that's really helpful (the forum has a section dedicated to weddings at the Barcelo).

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I am getting married at Barcelo colonial July 8th! :)

Do you know what live music they offer? I know mariachi, but what else is there? Do you know the prices? Have you heard much about bringing an ipod to play your own music at the ceremony? Is the sound good? and does it limit your ceremony site if you want to play your own music? I really envisioned the white sand and blue water in the backroung... Which might be tricky if we need electrical, that's why i'm thinking live...

Thanks for any help you can give! :)

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie here, and am looking into the Barcelo Palace for April 2011 - I love the idea of the gazebo! We might have a large-ish wedding (50-60 guests). I am concerned that they wouldn't all fit in the gazebo - anyone know what the max capacity is for this ceremony venue?

Thanks!

Regan

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
