Does anyone else feel awkward about having a bridal shower?

But as it turns out, a lot of people actually want to come to the shower and it's also nice for those people who can't make it to the actual wedding.
Same here. At first I was going to say "no gifts" but then I know some people who will not be able to attend the wedding wanted to get a gift. So we ended up creating a gift registry.

I think for a Destination Wedding, the Bridal Shower is good for those guests who are unable to attend the big day.

I am not registering and have got the weirdest reactions from everyone. I too feel weird about having a bridal shower. My MOH was worried that i wasn't going to have the full wedding experience because my family isn't throwing me a bridal shower. She is already doing one for me included in my bachelorette party. That is more than i need!

I am SOO happy to see the FEW responses from those that WANT a shower! I only invited a handful of close friends and immediate family to my DW and am having about 150ppl at my AHR. And i am REALLY looking forward to my shower. If ppl that are coming to Mexico cant afford to bring a gift to my shower, i will not at all be offended- nor do i expect one from them. That being said, ppl who cant make it to Mexico or those who were only invited to the AHR really want to come to my shower and want to know where we are registered. My Finace and I have lived together for 2 years but we have an apt furnished with hand-me-downs and I really want to start our marraige "anew." I am the eldest of two daughters and my mother and sister (MOH) are so excited to throw this shower for me-- I didnt even have to mention wanting one, it has been in the works since we announced our wedding date. I say- this our BIG day and I want to celebrate it for all its worth. Its hard work putting both events together, it will be nice to be catered on and see the work my mom and sis have done to make me feel special.

My bestie wants to throw me a modest shower b/c she can't come to Mexico but, although I like the idea of one, I don't want to burden her.

All of our family and super close friends are out of state and she offered to come to that one, but no one has offered to throw one.

I don't care, but I do. Make sense??

I'd love to have the whole wedding experience, the showers my friends & I put on have always been great fun because it's more of a gathering of friends than something full of chessy games. However, sadly I won't be having a shower because 2 years ago I moved away from all my friends & family and I live in another part of the country with my FI. His family is close by but they don't plan anything! I'm the "planner" who organizes the family holiday parties and games nights, etc. I love where I live but if there was ever a time that I really missed my friends and family it is now. I wish they were around me as I plan this wedding. But, I will be thankful that we are all meeting up in Jamaica soon enough. Then it will really be a party!

Originally I wasn't going to have a shower. We figured people would be spending money to attend the wedding plus this is the 2nd wedding for both of us. My best friend & her husband canceled on us 2 weeks ago & I was so down about it so my FI told me that my mom is planning a surprise shower for me & I was to "act" surprised because she wanted to make me feel better about only a few people going. Gotta love mom, she's great!

well, I have mixed feelings. I thought it would be best if I did not have a shower since I am an older bride. Plus the negative comments because its a destination wedding.

On the other hand....I had my share in attending and hosting showers so why not.

I really don't have a choice because of my friends....they pretty much told me I will be having a shower. Gotta love them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
