Frustrated with FMIL..vent!

Ok, so I just wanted to vent ladies. Months ago, the FI and I made up our invitation list. This included our own invite list and then we asked our parents to make a list of who they wanted us to invite. When I got the list from my MIL, lots of things had been mispelled...slightly annoying but we fixed it. We made our STD's and mailed them off (might I add that I found out before I sent them out that a couple of the addresses she gave me were wrong and she actually told the FI to just cross out the wrong addresses and write the correct ones in..!)

Anyway, I designed and made our pocketfold invitations and a couple weeks ago the FI went to confirm with them that all of the addresses on their list were still correct. Then my FMIL just casually mentions that there's more people she wants us to send invites to....after I'm already done making all of our invitations! I'm pretty annoyed b/c it's like she doesn't realize that hey these take a lot of time and patience and I had already bought all of the supplies, enough for just what I thought we needed. So she gives me a list of 5 extra people. THEN, yesterday the FI tells me she told him there's possibly 10 more people she wants to send invites to. HELLO?? Am I crazy or isn't this completely rudehuh.gif

I had already ordered the pocketfolds, envelopes, stamps and other materials so I'd have to order more...on top of the fact that I thought I was done with making these invites! Am I wrong here ladies lolhuh.gif

OMG!! For a second I thought that I had written an entire post and didn't remember it. After I designed and made our own passport invites, FMIL constantly adds people to the list. But it gets better - she now says that we don't need to send invites because she just forwards our website as the invitation.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread but it's just identical to our situation. Try not to let it stress you out (I know easier said than done). Just try to explain that unfortunately you already purchased everything and can only make a certain # of invitations and would like to keep your guest list at a certain #. Besides, you sent the initial list months ago so it's not your fault she NOW wants to add people.

Good luck!!!

haha omg that sounds so frustrating. they DO take a long time. What about saying that as much as you'd love to give them invites too, you have already finished them and have no material left, as you alloted just enough to cover the numbers she gave you. She had her chance to invite them. It's not that you randomly want to cut them out. It's her fault that she didn't think of them earlier. It's not your fault at all and I don't think you should keep catering to her constantly-increasing guestlist. Otherwise, give her one final deadline and say, that's it. after that you're not going to do anymore. That's life!

Hope it all works out :)

You know what? Tell your FMIL to suck it. If she wants to invite more guests, then she can make the invitations herself, or at least give you the $ to buy the supplies. If you don't want to say "suck it", then I like McToasty's advice. I know how much work goes into that stuff, and it costs a lot to get those supplies (money-wise and time-wise). Don't overstress yourself. YOu have other things to tend to.

Don't give in! Good luck!

OMG that is really annoying!

I agree with telling people to suck it!

I guess though if she wants to invite people via website link then let her do that. Don't bother sending those people official invites they were clearly afterthoughts anyway.

lol thank you ladies! I started to think it was just me...She basically said that the reason she didn't include them in the original invite list is that they're distant family & friends that she didn't expect to come but still wants to send invites to and maybe they'll get us presents b/c she has sent their children presents....seriously...

haha wow, that is pretty frustrating! But what if all those people she invited actually come? If your resort is anything like mine, you'll have to pay a per person fee! Not to mention any favours/OOT bags/mugs you're doing will increase as well.

Hope she's pitching in for your expenses!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
