Ok, what I have recently learned from my TA is that the rates the resort offers do not include all government taxes (only hotel taxes). The Mexican govt. tax is an additional $145 pp, payable to the hotel upon check out.

HI Ladies,

My TA is going to El Dorado Maroma this week and said she could take some pictures for me while she's there, especially of the new beach restaurant!  I hope there is a wedding while she's there.  I have been searching for pictures of weddings at EDM but can't seem to find very many.  I did find this one photographer who had a recent post on his blog:

I LOVE the simple beach wedding set-up!

Hi Gail,

How is it going?  I get married in October, am nervous, excited, happy? How are your plans going?

I've decided to bite the bullet and hire the expensive DJ, I want all my guests to enjoy themselves rather than charging someone with the iPod music, although that is a great alternative.

I am undecided on whether I should use their make-up artist or go to a department store in Playa del Carmen and get it done.  What are you doing for that?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Karla

Hi Karla,

Our weddings are so close!  Mine is in October too.  I'm starting to get nervous about the planning stages.  I think I have everything squared away but it's so hard to tell because so much of it you can't see until your actually down there.  For the make-up I decided to go to a local Bobbi Brown counter and have them show me how to do it, and buy what they recommend. (As long as I like how it comes out!)  I've heard of a lot of other brides doing that and it work's out well.  My hair is another story, I wouldn't trust myself do do that alone.  My only option though is to do a trial with the resort and have them do it for the wedding as well.  I haven't seen ANY reviews on EDM"S salon or make-up (have you?) so it's so hard to tell what to expect!

Ok ladies!! I am newly engaged, and planning a wedding at el dorado maroma! This thread has been ever so helpful! honestly when i thought about having a destination wedding at an all inclusive resort that i would have to pay for food and drinks at a reception!! I assumed it would be included since its all inclusive!  I am expecting about 30-35 guests - can anyone tell me how much they ended up spending on the reception part?? I am definately taking the IPOD route for music, and loved the site posted earlier for silk flowers.  I see on one of the wedding packages that it includes dinner reservations for our guests?? Is that instead of eating at a reception? Or just for everyone to have dinner together one night?  Does anyone have any acutal pictures of their reception??  Any info would be great as i am a newbie and kind of lost in all of this!! I know one thing, i am not intending on spending an extra 2 or 3 grand on top of my room! That was the reason we did destination wedding in the first place!  Any help appreciated:)

HI Brianna!  Congratulations on your engagement!   El Dorado Maroma is the perfect place to have a wedding!  my Wedding is in October and I just nailed down the final plans for the reception part of the wedding.  it ended up being around 800 for the food portion of the private dinner (but that is for 52 people)  We could have done the private dinner that is included in the package instead but that was for a maximum of 20 people and any over that would have been 25 a person, so it ended up being about the same.  We might use that dinner earlier in the week for just the wedding party one night.  NO pictures yet, but I will after October!!!

It's funny my travel agent just got back from EDM too, maybe we have the same one!

ok, anyone who has actually been to this place or begun planning thier trip help me!!! I am only looking at having 25-35 people at our DW - i have read all over this site that some brides forego the traditional wedding reception - have everyone go eat at a restaurant then to a bar for drinks and dancing - is this something we could do at EDM??  I really don't mind that, we are not traditional people and it looks like doing a cocktail/drinks and food at a reception will really stretch us money wise.  I just don't see spending that kind of money when we have already paid for an all inclusive resort!! Anyone who has any advice on this will be so much help.  Thanks!

HI Brianna, I would say  it is def possible to do a reception that way at Maroma.  I have been there before and they do have 1 bar that is open later called "Ricks Bar"  One night we went there they had a band playing popular cover songs, and another night they just had music playing and a few people were dancing.  It was nothing crazy but could def be a place you could bring your guests after dinner for some drinks and music.  I'm sure you could ask the resort before hand if they had anything planned for that night.  I have heard recently they sometimes have different shows that are performed.  As far as dinner goes you could use the group reservation that is included in one of the wedding packages and have all your guests at one restaurant.  Or, I went to one destination wedding, where everyone did dinner on their own and met up afterwards for drinks.  I would say do whatever your comfortable with doing.  The resort is small enough where your guests will always be together.

Hey everyone!!

Its been a while since I was on here! We just finsihed up with our invitations and wedding website! I am so happy with both.

Brianna~ Because we are staying for 7 nights we were eligible for the sweet wedding package. With that it includes a free dinner for 20. Bc we are having close to 50 we couldnt use this room. SO i asked my travel agent what I could do and she said that they can offer us 20% off the total for our reception. But with our reception we plan on having it in the Sabores restaurant and are going to have to pay per person...

They also have a complimentary dinner reservation during your stay at one of the restaurants that we are using for the rehersal dinner.

I looked into silk flowers and they can get pricey so I asked a friend and she suggested trying to use a wholesale place... I havent looked into further than that but as soon as I do I will let you girls know :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
