2011 Hotel Rates!!!!

Is anyone out there having a horrendous time getting rates from Travel Agents and hotels for 2011?

How is anyone planning their 2011 destination wedding without knowing the cost for their guests? We are getting married in January of 2011, and after 6 months of planning we had decided to go with Dreams Riviera Cancun. Our travel agent told us she had secured us group rates at 183pp/pn based on double occupancy. I ordered STD, and now that I have her contact info on the STD, and told our guests to contact her to make travel arrangements. She is saying that she had given us an approximate estimate of cost, and she won't know how much Dreams will be until the summer.

I feel like it was a bait and switch. Now I'm afraid the rates will go up and my guests won't be able to afford it. Can someone advise me?!?! I am very upset.

Anyone else have similar situations happen to them?

I'm also in a similar situation. We picked a resort based on this year's prices but we won't get pricing for next January until at least the spring, so this is what i've told my guests. I only sent out a STD and will send out a formal invite with booking/pricing information once I finalize a group rate.

I just gave everyone an idea of what costs we were looking at and sent out STDs. I tried to give as much warning as possible too. If you at least have an idea regarding price, then people can still budget/save and when you need to pay, it's not going to be a shocker!!jf

Did you only have her contact information and wedding date on your STDs? If so and you do not have a large number of people going, maybe let them know the situation (mass e-mail or if you have a website, update that) - that the date is secured and travel agent is secured but not the actual price and/or resort. That way, your guests can still make plans to save and book off the book week but you can make a decision as to the actual resort and or package at a later date?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
