Alter this dress???

So, as many of you know, I have my wedding dress that I LOVE (a strapless MS). It just needs a few alterations and it will be perfect!

But now I'm considering changing into a second dress that I can really dance and party in some time later in the evening. Like I said I LOVE my dress, but it is strapless (and I have little to keep it up), and while light compared to most dresses, it still has a little weight to it.

So...my sister got married a couple of years ago and bought a fabulous Amy Michelson ($$$$$) that would be perfect. I know she'd be super excited if I wore it. The thing is we are not the same size. It's not that I think she'd mind if I altered it, but can I It would need to be brought from a size 10 to a 2. Is that possible? I don't want to bring it to a seamstress and have her laugh in my face. I know NOTHING about sewing or alterations. Do any of you have any idea? Here's pics of the dress (not my sister . It's a very light, airy fabric (which I think makes for more difficult alterations).

i think you need to ask a seamstress. ive heard you can only take a dress down 2-3 sizes but who knows really. it may be possible but a lot of money. im sure it depends on the dress. ive been a lot of help huh?

hmm I think the dress is very pretty, but like Leigh mentioned I don't know if you will be able to bring it down that far.

It's a GORGEOUS dress! But I'm not sure how far down they can alter it. I definitely think it's worth having someone look at. Get a professional opinion and then take it from there. Obviously if it's super expensive it might not be worth it, you know?

My suggestion would be to maybe have spaghetti straps added to your MS dress. You know the removable kind that strapless bras have?

 

It could help a little bit with the weight and you do love it...

They could add buttons inside the dress & then make straps that button on. You could put the straps on just for the reception.

I think it could be altered. I remember a friend of mine wore her mothers dress a few years back and a seemstress in was able to bring it from a size 2 to a 4 and I think that is much more difficult.

I was thinking the same thing a few other girls mentioned, have some straps made to keep it up. I am having a halter strap made for my dress that I can put in and take out. 1 straps would have more support I think, I just thought the halter looked nicer. Just a thought.

Gorgeous dress! Im not sure about altering it though. It looks like a very delicate material and going down so many sizes may be hard. But it never hurts to ask a seamstress.

Just gain a few sizes - problem solved!
