I think we should try to get in contact with another florist in Ocho Rios and see what their prices are and then check to see if they are allowed to deliver the flowers to the resort. I'll see what I can find today on the Jamaican Yellow Pages online.

sounds like a plan! :) I'll try to get in touch with someone @ Riu to see if we can get flowers delivered to us at the resort.

Ok, I found 2 different florists in Ocho Rios and then a few more around Jamaica that said in their ads they deliver all over. I will email them all and see if any of them get back to me. It may work better if a few of us email them, so if you want to:

        allwrappedupja@kasnet.com

        everybloomingthing@cwjamaica.com

        kreationsflowers@yahoo.com

        shangrilaja@yahoo.com (Ocho Rios florist)

        malabreflower@yahoo.com

        jansflowers@hotmail.com (Ocho Rios florist)

All Wrapped Up got back to me. Before I do anything, we need to make sure that we can get a delivery of outside flowers. The following is their email:

              Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for contacting us. Each wedding is custom designed i.e. we determine with your help, all the pieces required for your wedding and create them according to your colour palate and type of flowers required. We are a full service design team so we take care of all flowers, large decor pieces, table arrangements, lighting, special linen such as chair covers, tiebacks, overlays etc.
If you need only wedding party flowers - brides bouquet, bridesmaid etc. that can also be done and delivered by a courier to you at your hotel.

We do a 1hour consultation with the bride at no cost. If you wish to then book your date with us we will prepare an estimate for your perusal.
A 50% deposit is required at booking and the balance is paid 21 days before your wedding. Our cancellation fee is 25% of your estimate if you cancel within 60 days of your wedding date.

I have attached our brochure for more info. You can email or ring me at 876-978-1211. Thanks again.

FYI - still waiting to hear from Riu about outside florists. I emailed Carolina, the wedding sales coordinator as she is quick to respond!! First, I wanted 100% guarantee that I CAN bring a professional photographer as a guest and the photographer will be able to work! Second, I asked about the florists. This is her response to me:

Thank you for contacting RIU Sales Wedding Department

Yes, you can use the photographer you are bringing as a guest for your wedding.

I have sent your inquiry about the florist to the coordinator at the Ocho Rios, I will for sure get back to you with the information that the coordinator will send me.

If you shall require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

                Warm Regards,

                Carolina Miranda

Let us know when you find out!

I heard back from another florist, but they sound way too expensive. This was their response:

                  Hi Ms. Moran
Thank you for your interest in using Kreations to do your wedding flowers.

Our bridal bouquets start at Ja. $2500 up depending on the type of flowers used. We do boutineers, balloon decorations(arches, clusters columns), decorations with lights and tulle.

Please let us know the type of flowers that you are intersted in using and if you can get pictures of the types of bouquets that you like we could give you and idea of the costs as next year is a long way off and we cannot tell what the prices of flowers will be at that time.

Please send us your contact nos.

                  Yours sincerely

well.... according to this website: Convert Jamaican Dollars (JMD) and United States Dollars (USD): Currency Exchange Rate Conversion Calculator $2500 Jamaican Dollars is really just $36.77 US Dollars. So yay!!!! :)

BTW - this company also emailed me back with pretty much the same thing.
