Venting about airfares

For our DW we opted for a group rate on one airline and getting the 5% discount on another airline to help our guests out. We've had only 3 people sign up for the group reservation and now we are at a point where we most likely are going to need to cancel the reservation before 2/9 and those three guests will need to pay for their tickets within 24 hours. One of the guests who is holding 2 spots checked the rates on that airline yesterday. She found 2 seats for almost $100 less than the fare with the group reservation. That's when the emails started coming in...can I get out of the group reservation? Can you call and ask about the rate? well, did you ask what will happen if you release the seats? Can you get back to me ASAP?

I COMPLETELY understand wanting to save money - I would too if I was in her position and I want to save my guests money when flying to Belize. BUT if I say let me talk to FI and I'll get back to you within a few hours don't start asking me more questions I can't answer right now. Ugh. Don't get me wrong...I don't want to keep this reservation if it's going to cost everyone more money but I still have some guests who might want this option and I don't want to take it away from them without checking in with them first.

Thanks for listening - I had to get that off my chest!

Well the thing is -- the rates on the internet may change again -- and go up. So if those people want out of the group rate then fine -- but then you may lose it for other people who will need it once the rates go back up (if they do).

Ughh -- it's such a gamble. I had the FI mom doing the same thing -- finding her own rates and then telling family members to book online instead of with our TA. FI changed her mind though.!

Oryx - we actually had to do that. The airfare from Boston to Belize in February was insane. It was worse too because we had picked school vacation week. Thankfully the fares in April are better.
Well I'm glad everything worked out for you. You must be getting so excited as the day gets near!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
