How much can you personalise a legal ceremony?

Recommended Posts

you can't do too much personalization in the legal ceremony. i was told i could write my own vows (but didn't have to) and that i could add a sand ceremony or reading, but that i would have to provide someone else to read that because the judge would not.

at dreams cancun, all ceremonies are in english. i think other areas, as well as the judges specific resorts contract with, are different. most parts of mexico require the legal ceremony to be in spanish. your marriage application and actual certificate will be in spanish (so you'll be blindly signing your life away ... we were certain we had sold our kidneys or something, lol).

michelle, i'm sorry to report that our wedding DID have that whole bit about marriage being the only way to found a family. we giggled through most of it. especially the part about giving your children food. i mean, seriously? food? "food and love." i was just thankful that the ceremony wasn't extremely religious.

oh and yes, there was a ring exchange that the judge read, and had you repeat a phrase as you exchanged. i'd have to watch the video again to see what exactly it said, but it wasn't much beyond the usual, "i give you this ring as a token of my love."

jess, definitely check with your WC vs. relying on what the girls here say unless they got married at the same resort. cabo definitely has different rules than cancun/riviera maya, as it is in a different state than quintana roo.

Cougs - that's very helpful thank you! I'm getting married at Dreams Tulum, but it's still in Quintana Roo, so hopefully the same rules will apply. Maybe I will just take the "telling" approach as opposed to the asking approach. I will just tell my WC that I want my friend/mother, etc read this piece, etc. :)

I just emailed my coordinator yesterday about the wording also. Which WC are you using at Dreams? Please do share! That would give me such a better idea of what to do!

I've been dealing with Aurora Garcia.

She has been really on the ball, often getting back to me within 24hrs - 3 days.

I expect this is due to the wedding being so soon but its a vast improvement on the timescale and quality of responses I was receiving when I first booked 18 months ago.

As I understand it from recent brides reviews although she is my point of contact now it appears she is an assistant to the actual wedding co-ordinators and as many brides have reported I will not be dealing with her direct at the resort.

I will take printed copies of everything just in case!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
