Coral Cove?

Recommended Posts

So my fiance and I are getting down to choosing our resort for our November 2010 wedding. We're seriously considering Coral Cove. We both want to be at a place that's smaller and more private than the larger resorts. It also has great reviews on TripAdviser and the wedding coordinator has been incredibly sweet and helpful thus far.

I've only seen one or two reviews of it on here. Anyone else using them? Has anyone decided against them and wouldn't mind telling me why?

Hope everyone is happily planning. :)

Hi Solaas

We were going to have our wedding at Coral Cove as well, but decided against it. I started to get a little stressed out about the fact that it is 2 hours away fromt eh airport and i think 45 minutest from Negril. I just started to get worried that a lot of our guests wouldn't want to be that far away from teh major places in Jamaica and then they would incur extra costs for travelling back and forth.

Coral Cove is very beautiful and I have to say that our coordinator, Kimeashia, was very helpful and very understanding when we decided not to have our wedding there. I also found too that their prices were also less expensive then other resorts. I defentely want to go and stay there just not have the wedding there.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions I would be happy to help if I can!

That does help, thank you. I considered the remoteness of the resort, but both my fiance and I like the idea of a secluded spot. I hope our guests will manage... we will warn them in advance. :)

Thanks again and I know you'll have a beautiful wedding!

I also looked into Coral Cove, but we decided against it for a few reasons:

- Our families are not used to traveling internationally, and we figured that a regular chain AI would better suit varying tastes with food and comfort levels.

- No pool - We have one person coming who doesn't like to swim if there are "creepy crawlies" in the water. With the coral reef just outside of the cove (which is right up my alley), I figured she may not get in the water at all. The beach in Negril is sandy for many feet out.

- No A/C in many of the rooms. Just a consideration for guests who may not be able to deal with it.

- I also figured that since the resort is small, the guests wouldn't be able to spread out as much and would see each other all day. Not that it would necessarily cause a problem, but I figured you usually don't usually want to spend all your time together, and a larger resort allows you to split up for some of the time.

Otherwise, I think I would have loved it. They'll include a bonfire at the reception for free, and their prices are very very reasonable. If your guests are comfortable traveling to that remote area, I think they'll have a blast. Instead, we're doing Beaches Negril and then doing a more low-key, smaller place for our honeymoon.

The only other caution I have about the area is that some of the people on the Negril Tripadvisor forum have mentioned that the community of Little Bay has had some murders in the past year that were surprising - not that tourists would be targeted, but that it isn't the sleepy community that the website portrays it to be. Look into it a little (maybe ask the wedding coordinator and a couple of message boards) just to be on the safe side.

My Fiancé and I were also considering the Coral Cove and the people that I contact seemed to be great at the resort and yes the trip advisor reviews were awesome!!! The reason we actually choose against it was that when I showed a couple of people the website the first things they said was that it looks “rocky” which it dose but I figured that wouldn’t be much of a problem…..the other reason why we choose against it was that my fiancé who is from JA called a local photogo to speak with her about our pictures and she stated that the resort was in a bush ( just meaning it was very secluded, which you seem to be okay with) he had also briefly spoke with her about what our plans were… as far as seeing other things that were not on the resort and nightlife…. She explained that nightlife and other activities would require long travel --- we ultimately choose against the resort and moved to another small resort in Negril Rondel Village. I do think that you would have a wonderful wedding at Coral Cove just after further consideration it did not look like it would be the best location for our wedding… good luck and happy planning.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got married at Coral Cove. The wedding was beautiful. I didn't have to stress about everything being in order.

*The Good: The food was excellent; always something different and was sitdown for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The people were very nice. The resort was small (we had the whole resort); I wanted a private wedding which is what we got!! They cater to what you want. Nice lagoon where the kids could play in the water and sand (just wear water shoes).

*The not so good: The resort is small so if you want to do any excursions I wouldn't recommend the resort. We tried to do a snorkeling excursion and that failed miserably. I did have some makeup taken and the owner was very disappointed to hear that and he did reimburse us for the things taken. The owner takes great pride in his resort.

As mentioned in a previous post, not all rooms have A/C but people didn't complain. They opened up the windows and it was cool in their rooms. The drive to the resort was sketchy and it had was wondering but when we pulled in to the resort I was happy. They are hoping to have a pool done in June (the last hurricane wiped out all their supplies).

If you have any questions please let me know.

Sara

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
