My ring is turning gold already!!

Recommended Posts

My e-ring is platinum and I've had it for two years. When we purchased our wedding bands I decided I wanted white gold because it would have been slot more expensive to go platinum with that one as well. When I put both of them together, my e-ring looks dull against my wedding band b/c after time, platinum will lose it's shineness and become a little dull. The jeweler where we purchased our wb offered to buff it and plate in in rhodium so that they both are shiny and match. He explained that with platinum you can have it rebuffed may times because its a very durable metal. The rhodium is what gives it the "shiny" look. So they offered to do it for free. Make sure if you do this that you go with a reputable jeweler that knows what they are doing. Some places will only dip it in rhodium without buffing it first. If they do this, you will see scrathes very easily. Buffing and dipping in rhodium is usually around $90 or so. And they recommend that it gets done every three years or so, sooner if you are harsh on your rings and would like to keep them shiny. So, yes platinum rings are nice, but they also require a little maintenance to keep them looking great. Hope this helps!

We got my e ring and wedding band at 2 different stores. I noticed that my e ring was more gold (yellow) than my wedding band.. even thought they are both supposed to be white gold. I find it slightly annoying.. but I deal with it for now until our wedding when I get get them saudered together.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get your ring dipped?

3 months!?? that's so strange. My e-ring is 18k white gold and has never needed to be dipped, and I've had it for over 2 years now. It still looks new minus a few dings because I'm a tard and wear it to the gym :S

This is so interesting I had no clue about 'dipping' lol. My e-ring is just over 1 1/2 yrs old and lately it's really turned too yellow for my liking. I have repeatedly polished it and buffed it to no avail (especially when I compare it to my new shiny wedding band). I will have to look into this 'dipping' before we leave in two weeks. I want a nice new shiny e-ring!!

I had mind buffed after 3 years and its all nice and shiny again. Platinum is chosen often because of its durability.

Caroline24 at least the store is willing to do it for you for free. Can you imagine having to pay each time you had to have it dipped!?! rant.gif
I agree...I have never heard of a platinum ring that had to be dipped.....buffed...yes...but dipped...no. I have a 18K white gold ring and so far...so good...but from what I hear...expect to dip over the years.

I guess you have to weigh the pros and the cons of both types of metal.. Platinum shine/buff every three years or re dip (possibly for a fee) every 3-4 months due to a yellow tint. I am sure even yellow or dull..they are beauties!! I found a GREAT cleaning product that gets your ring looking like new all shiny and sparlky within a matter of minutes!!! You may have heard of it is called razzle dazzle their website is Liquid Jewelry Cleaner Jewelry Polish | Razzle Dazzle Professional Cleaner they also a "magic cloth" that you can get, this rag is like an instant buffer for your rings.. it works Gooooood. For us platinum girls, you can have your ring shining all year round. It is safe on all metals. I LOVE my cloth and it lasts FOREVER...the dirtier it gets the better if buffs. I am serious.. Happy cleaning girlies!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
