Lisa,

For the confusion, we had the cermeony at the gazebo, cocktail hour in the garden space behind the gazebo. So when the wedding was over since everything was already set up, people assumed that the cocktail hour would begin (even though I had an agenda that explained there would be a break). So people stood around wondering what was happening. They then went to go get drinks at a bar, but those who were staying at the gran porto or other hotels were not supposed to be at the bar, so there were issues then and the staff said we had to pay something like $200 for some drinks, which was crazy! We fought this b/c the gran porto guests had upgraded their room, so they had rights to the royal. Anyways it just created some unneccessary frustration and issues that would not have happened if we had just gone straight into cocktail hour. Either way, it will be fine, but just a little annoying.

That is kinda annoying (that they had issues with the guests at the bar). Glad it worked out. That's what I worry about with the Royal dealing with non-royal/Gran guests. But thanks so much for sharing! Love the photos, and congratulations!

Ahhhh thanks, gotcha. I have been debating the start time, and after reading this, FI and I decided to go directly into the cocktail hour- thanks for the input!

Your pictures are GORGEOUS!! Congrats on a beautiful wedding. Mine is in 3 months and I'm getting nervous about all of the little details. I just have a couple questions.

#1 - You said that the guests had rights to the Royal because they upgraded their room at The Gran Porto - what exactly does that mean? Our guests have a Jr. Suite Ocean view - is this considered an upgrade?

I'm nervous because I'm staying at The Gran with my daughter but my wedding is at The Royal, so I'm scared that I may have issues getting over there and I'm the bride!!

#2 - You said you paid to extend the reception 1 hour, do you mind telling me what that costs? We're interested in doing that as well.

Thanks for all your help! I can't wait to come back and help future Royal brides too :)

Lexibride, is your fiance staying at the Royal? We were told that we had to stay at The Royal in order to have a wedding at there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
