Cuba weather in December?

We just got engaged and were planning to get married in Cuba(Varadero) in December 2010. We are both teachers so although we have an awesome amount of holidays we are limited as to when we can go....I've been to Cuba five times and fell in love with the country after the first trip however I've never been in December. Since I began my researching I've heard that the weather in December is unpredictable, can be windy and down right chilly. So...now the dilemma...do we switch the date(it would have to be in the summer or Spring Break 2011 but we don't want to wait that long) or switch locations? I'm not sure how many people would want to go on a "winter vacation" in the summer months. I know you can't control weather...you get what you get...but time of year can also be a factor....ahhh..what to do!! Any advice/suggestions?

I've been there in December twice. It was about 26 all week for the first time and about 23-25C the second time. Went scuba diving that second time and the water temperature was about 19-22C(down where I did it).

Personally, it's better to plan your wedding in Cuba in December than in September-October. That's when the hurrican season is in full effect and you'd be gambling big time.

Cheers,

Dmitri

I know Cuba had some pretty chilly weather over the holidays this year - one TripAdvisor reviewer said they could only swim 1 day out of their 7 day vacation! It might be risky - having it in the early summer will leave you with one less thing to worry about for sure!

I'm so torn about what to do....FI and I talked yesterday as I'm quite concerned about the weather in December, the only other time we could do it would be Spring Break 2011 which seems like a long time for us to wait(FI said we should just do it this Spring Break...I would never be ready!). I don't know what to do....gamble and have it in December(I know the weather will be better then here in Winnipeg at least) or wait until Spring Break 2011(it would be late March). Any advicehuh.gif??

I'd go with March. It's only a few months later, it's not so close to Christmas and it's supposed to be a great time of year to go to Cuba. It sounds so much further away when you say 2011, but it's really only three months difference. Just my opinion.

I'm in your boat as well! (and in your city - Winnipeg!) Due to my fiance's mom being a teacher and our various siblings being in university, Christmas break seems like the only time everyone can go.

We had our hearts set on Cuba for a long time, but now after the chilly winter they had this year, we're considering other options as well. I don't know what to do either. Cuba appeals the most to me (I've been there once in January, and the weather was really nice, although it rained for 2-3 days.)

Have you decided what you're doing yet? Also do you have a travel agent yet?

I have not been in October but I hear it is very warm. Yes it is hurricane season, but those are acts of god that have no rhyme or reason. I got married in November and the temperatures were wonderful. Mind you they did have a hurricane pass the island three days before we arrived. The temperatures that they are experiencing between January and March this year are freak lows. The Cuban have been hitting record lows all winter long. So who is to say what you will have. I went last year in February and it was warm, but the nights were cool. I highly recommend Cuba regardless of the time of year or the temperature. The country is beautiful and the people are most hospitable.

I went to Varadero in October in 2000. The weather was warm enough for shorts the whole time, but it was VERY windy. There wasn't a hurricane, but there was some sort of storm that brought little rain, but lots of clouds and lots & lots of wind. The beach was closed 6 of the 7 days we were there, as the sea was too rough. You couldn't even stay on the beach, as the sand would pinch your skin. Even when the sun came back the wind did not die down until the day we were leaving. The two days without wind (arrival and departure!) were awesome though!!!

It wasn't enough to make me have a bad time, and I have returned to Cuba twice since, and am getting married there next year. :-)

Hope you have better weather than I had...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
