Sigh, sigh, sigh

Okay, this isn't really an angry rant or anything; just a general disappointment. My BMs are the biggest tomboys ever. Honestly, I don't even know how we ended up friends at this point. They're complaining about wearing dresses, not interested when I talk about my dress or makeup or boudoir photos, not excited about being pampered, etc, etc.

I am very much a girly girl, so I find this a little disappointing that I have no one to share it with. sad.gif

Not much to be done about it except vent. So here I am.

I guess my only advice is just to remember the real reasons that you're friends with them. I'm assuming that deep down they're good people who you have a lot of values in common with, or that they're good friends to you in their way. Not everyone is going to get the wedding bug- honestly I'm excited about mine but only because it's mine, you know? I find weddings in general pretty boring (one of the reasons that I've opted for the DW). My MOH is complaining that she's not getting enough wedding chat from me, lol, so I get where your friends are coming from (maybe we should trade?-jk).

Try to be patient and appreciate the fact that they're still willing to be there for you even though it's not really their thing. Make sure that you're not letting wedding stuff dominate all of your conversations with them (I'm not saying you're doing this, just be aware that not everyone is going to be as into it as the bride). Do you have anyone else you can bounce ideas off of- like maybe your Mom or FMIL? Also, instead of focusing on the pampering, etc.. maybe try to find something you guys can do together to celebrate that you'll all enjoy. Good luck and try not to let it get to you, I'm sure they don't intend to hurt your feelings.

Haha aww that sucks. I know you appreciate your friends and all that, but it's true - it's a big day for us brides and of course it's something that we think about constantly and want to talk about. Most of my gfs aren't even in town so I don't get to talk about it much either. Thank god for this forum!!! Maybe you can start a planning thread and keep us BDW members updated on your progress and thoughts... You can even put up polls to get our opinions or just to bounce your ideas off of. :) We're here for you!!!

Aw, thanks you guys! Yeah, I'm very glad to have this site - it's been a great voice of support for me!

I try really hard not to let my wedding stuff dominate conversations. None of my bridesmaids are here in Texas with me, so if I do mention something wedding-related it's only because it's not something I can do here on my own or something I need an opinion about.

Like I said, I'm not really venting because I'm mad - I respect that they are not girly girls and I love them for many, many reasons. I know that this isn't their thing and I love that they are doing this for me REGARDLESS of how they feel about it in particular. I just wish there were times when I could have that giddy girl feeling with them. I happen to love being pampered and feel like it's an important part of the wedding, so they're going to suck it up and "deal" with it. Haha

Thanks, thanks, thanks! I love you guys :)

I say have a little fun with them...hehehehe.

Hmmm...let's start with the dresses. Oh how you should go to the thrift shop and purchase some serious BM dresses. Ones that will make them thankful for the real ones. Play a little jokie-joke on them. You know, find the most hideous dresses, the ones we all dread wearing. Personally I promised my girls I would put them in poofy purple dresses with orange polka dots and a hugely unflattering unflattering cut. I WILL be the prettiest on my day Biotches!

Now I would never really do it, or would I? Undecided...

Anyhoo, I think it would make a great funny to show them their NEW dresses...lots and lots and lots of taffeta and tulle!

Next up, find yourself a seriously flamboyant stylist to "consult" your girls. I mean let those gals sit in the chair and "ol' girl" will have at them! And tell him to kick his glam into high gear, we're talking Derek J style. From top to bottom, full finger swaying, snapping and head-shaking. Have him pull out the scissors for effect. It would be FAB-U-LOUS! Talkin' bout "giiirrrrl, you need" and "oh honey, seriously." Be sure to have photographer on site to catch their reactions... Only when they are completely hot with anger do you let them know it's a gag.

If they won't have fun with you, you'll just be forced to make them your fun!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
