Hello, everyone. :]

My name is Meghan and I am very new to the destination wedding scene. I joined this forum in the hopes that I could learn something from everyone else here, as I received some recommendations to check out the site. When I eventually traveled here, I was really pleased with it, so I figured I would sign up for a membership.

My fiance, Joey, and I have been together for 10 years this year (or so it will be so on August 19, 2010). We have really gone through a large number of options for our wedding plans, but the destination wedding plan fits us the most and it just "feels right" to us and our entire family. We don't have a ton of money and we don't need a large number of people to see us getting married, so we'd like to do it somewhere fun, which also just happens to be beautiful and tropical. We'd love to get married in Hawaii, but we're just not sure how expensive it would be and if we could afford it. We've also been thinking about Key West, as well, because I think it may be a cheaper option for us. Honestly, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I am so hungry to learn! Inform me! :]

Right now we're shooting for October. I would love for it to be 10/10/10 (after 10 years of relationship), but I am open to other dates, as well. Since I'm so uninformed on both destination weddings, and weddings as a whole, we've been thinking about going through an agency for our wedding planning. I have been looking into Wedding Destinations and Planning | Destination Weddings .com, but I am not aware of their reputation with other couples who have employed their services. I would appreciate anyone's help on anything, really, and in the meantime, I will peruse the forum for different tidbits of knowledge in an attempt to eradicate a little bit of this ignorance.

Thanks for reading. Oh, did I mention I need help? ;]

Hi Meghan! Welcome to the forum. We've been together 10 years too, although it will be 11 by the time of the wedding! We're getting married in Key West, June 26. We went in November on a scouting mission and the weather was gorgeous. TA Maureen has a point though since October is hurricane season. Have you been to either place before?

Hi Meghan! Welcome to the forum. A cheaper option than Hawaii, would be the US Virgin Islands. This is the route that my fiance and I are going. Flights and hotels are a lot cheaper, and the flight is a little shorter too, but October might be a bad month b/c of Hurricanes, I know the worst month there is September. But its something that you might want to look into. Happy Planning!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
