What they don't tell you about DW's!!

Yeah, seriously. These are going to be fantastic stories to share with everyone else who wasn't there. I think we all share the same concerns for our guests since they are putting in a lot of money in to be there with us -- but no matter what, it's all worth it.

true, and like my DH says to me, it's not like we're asking them to spend a week in Siberia...we still got to wear flip-flops and shorts for a week.

I think it was bad luck too. Which totally threw me off, because everything else fell so easily into place I felt like there was an angel on my shoulder! Seriously! From the dress to the rings to the decorations...all the planning was so easy and fun.

SO for everyone who is having bad luck pre-wedding, not to worry!!! By rights it should all turn around in time for your wedding!

Thanks for posting this. It really makes you think about things that you may need to look out for. I know that I will be one of those that worries about everyone having fun.. but I am really going to try not to. With over 30 people that are going to be there with us, I just can't let myself worry too much. I am just going to remind myself that we arent MAKING anyone go with us, so I just hope that everyone that is going will have a good time and that there will bet things that happen.. but that it isnt the end of the world.

Thanks for posting this date-twin!! It does bring into perspective what could happen when anyone takes a chance and has their wedding outdoors, in the carribean or at home. Such is life and you just have to make the best of it!!

I heard that it was rainy weather on your side of the island which totally sucks. We did have a few days of crapy weather as well, so I know how you feel. I wonder what happend with Sunquest though because we flew the same thing and had no problems whatsoever. Maybe it was the travel agent's fault?? Regardless, even though it wasn't exactly what you pictured, you still married the man of your dreams!!!!! love.gif

CONGRATS on becoming a MRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Lisa, you're a peach...yeah I've been told since then the safest bet in the Caribbean is to go to the SOUTH side of the island, you'll have better weather.

And thanks to everyone for your comments...I am still a bit disappointed but my reality check is that I still had a lovely wedding despite everything. :)

Wow...sorry that you had so many troubles getting everyone organized. I'm a little scared now about our resort becuase one of the famillies that I teach just came back from a vacation at our resort, not a wedding mind you. She complained that they had difficulties with room check in and some people getting better rooms...I'm hoping that beacuse we have some fluent spanish speakers coming with us and because everyone will be linked to the wedding that this won't happen. I can imagine that it's hard hearing everyones complaints! sad.gif Definitely like what Lisa said though...no matter the weather, rooms, or problems with flights you were married in a paradise! Congrats!

ah as much as we try not to,as women we tend to worry/stress about everything and everyone...and it increases big time at our wedding, weve been dreaming about this for yrs..however..weather is uncontrollable and so are peoples thoughts....we need to somehow...speaking for myself as well here, thinking and worrying about everyone else and concentrate on US and OUR day!

I know it def. sucks we pay to do a DW part of the reason, for me anyway, for the SUN....here in montreal the past 2 summers have been RAIN RAIN RAIN...so we have much better chances in getting sun there the here....but if it rains...not much w can do about it, i know i will def. be disapointed but you know what your in a tropical place with a beautiful beach..with every1 you care about around you..

best thing you can do I guess is really check our the yearly temperature in the city you are going to and try to pick your wedding date accordingly...thats what we did we picked the MLD for #1 cost,beach,5 stars, reviews and may because cost and temperature, in cuba sometimes in dec, jan, feb it can often be tricky....and we did not want any spring breakers..so we decided for april/may but april was booked, def did not want EXTREME HEAT (which is what i am worried about..) so voila....

thanks for posting this thread it will be hopefully help for future brides....and thanks for being honest... atleast you are able to look back and be happy about your wedding...there are always pros and cons everywhere we go to get married...abroad or at home... you gotta choose whats best for you in the long run......

I guess Im a little confused about your post. All the things you say you didnt know about before hand all seem like common sense to me? When you plan a destination wedding you know you are taking a risk at the weather being perfect so teh only thing you can do is research daily temps and plan to go at a time of year where its least likely to rain or have bad weather. A wedding at home could be rain/snow the day before, during and the day after as well. Crap weather happens, its uncontrollable.

Also- a DW is supposed to be low stress and a vacation for everyone. I would hope none of your guests paid that money and then expected you to cater to them all week. If they didnt have fun or make the best of their stay their, rain or not, then thats their own fault. People can mope around and be upset or they can take it for what it is and make the best of it. And the whole point of a destination wedding IS to spend a week with your friends and family rain or shine - so i think we all know ahead of time we will be 'stuck' with our guests for a week. Thats no big surprise. If I only wanted to see my guests for one day, I woul dhave had a city wedding.

I really hope this post doesn't scare future DW brides. THis forum does a great job with gathering and giving a ton of information to prepare you and give you hints at planning your wedding and keep it LOW stress.

Im sorry you are upset with your weather, you won't be the first or the last bride to have crappy weather on their destination wedding. But I am happy you did take the time to enjoy your wedding day, b/c in the end it was and always will be your wedding day.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
