Being Pressured to change our wedding date

I AGREE. This is YOUR day. We chose to do a destination wedding so that the guests who actually GO, are the ones who care enough to be there with us. Most of our guests have been supportive of our decisions, and the ones that I am really close to are willing to take the time off to be with us. We haven't sent notice to family members, but I know we'll probably get some negative feedback on our choices, but you know what? if they hate the thought of our destination wedding so much, then they shouldn't go. They might end up causing negative vibes at the wedding anyway.

Better for us, and better for them.

I really hope you keep your date in November. Best of luck!

IMPO, his sister should be there. But, you can't inconvenience everyone else (not to mention yourselves) to appease her. Can you guys plan the wedding for a Saturday in November?

It would be inconvenient for her, but she would not have to take days off, or maybe just 1 or 2. She could catch the Red-Eye on Friday night and fly back on Sunday. If you and your FI helped to get her there,...you give a little, she gives a little...everyone's happy.

At least maybe put it on the table as an option. If she refuses outright, she's simply being unreasonable and the show must go on without her.

Per the Dreams website info, only the wedding couple would have to arrive on Monday for a Saturday wedding. This would allow for 4 business days (not including day of arrival) in country previous to the legal wedding ceremony.

Is this correct?

I believe the 4 witnesses do also. You can pay people there to be witnesses if it's a must. For symbolic the bride/groom can just get there whenever before.

We had been planning it for a Friday, I have emailed the WC to see if the Saturday is available. We have already suggested that she just come down on the Thursday evening and therefore only miss one day so we'll see (plus we said we'd help with the ticket). So hopefully it will work.

We are going to keep our November date. The nice thing is that my family and all our friends have been really supportive and said to just let them know when and where and they'll be there. The reality is many people will not be able to make it for so reason or another and like most of you have pointed out, there is just no way to accommodate everyone.

This is our one and only wedding so we will make it what we want and hope everyone can make it. But if not, we are happy to invite them over to see the video.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful advise.

I say keep your date and nevermind the rest of them.. it's your day and don't feel bad!

I can totally relate to date issues.. I'm a teacher myself and when we will set our date, I am almost obligated to have our wedding at the end of June (to stay clear of expensive spring break prices, Christmas, etc). But I'm not doing that for other guests, I'm doing it for myself!

By the way.. anyone have bad weather issues in Mexico in June? Is it a terrible time to go?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
