Oh yes! It is a strange province. Here, a lot of divorced people, a lot of single parents, and a lot of re-constructed families. One of my former colleague who has 2 kids with different fathers, told me she enjoys the fact that she divided the kids with her ex, so she doesn't have to see/take care of her kids everyday...I almost faint, and I felt very sorry for her kids.
People tends to not get married, just live together...pop out some kids.
The strange thing is, Quebec is the first province recognize..common law..as a legal status (back in the 60s, living together before marriage was a taboo), but Quebec is the only province where common laws couples don't have the same legal status as Married couple..when it comes to separation! (i.e. when a woman "divorces", she can get half or get spousal support from ex hubby, but when a woman just broke up with her "common law" bf, she gets nothing!)

Wow, I can't believe that Bonnie. Can no one change their name at all? Or just people who are changing due to marriage? For example, I have a good friend (one of my BMs!) whose parents didn't give her a middle name, she just had a first and surname. She always hated that she didn't have a middle name, so a year ago she chose a middle name and legally changed her name to include it. Could she not do that in Quebec?

I'm not a huge fan of my fiance's last name, it's long and German, but I am still going to take it just because I'm a traditionalist. I'm a little sad though to be losing my short and simple last namesad.gif

Arrr Bonnie that is so sad you can't take FI's name..... I am really looking forward to having a shorter surname and i love the name Page. I actually like the name Paige for a girl. But i couldn't have Paige Page could I. Hee hee... so Scarlett it was, lol......

I think Next do some nice bits and i'm pleased as punch we have the suits sorted!

Yesterday we were thinking of music etc.... anyone got their first dance song yet? Me and FI don't have "a song" so finding it hard deciding. We like Amazed by lonestar but not 100% .....

We haven't decided on a first song dance yet. I have picked a few but FI's taste in music is so much different! Everyone I have him listen to he says "Yea I guess"...I'm looking for a better reaction like "YES THAT'S IT!" LOL not sure I'll ever get that reaction though!

My father and I will dance to I loved her first...can't think of the band off the top of my head right now. But I've had that one picked out for years now!

We also don't have "a song" and anytime one comes on that I think would be good, he just makes a face haha. So like FutureMrsYak, I'm still waiting for one that I get a good reaction from him on. Then again, I'm not sure that'll happen with any slow song. We'll see! Ideally I would love to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole. But I haven't sold him on that yet.

We haven't decided if we're going to do father-daughter and mother-son dances separate or at the same time. What are the rest of you doing? I kind of want to do them together, but my mom got upset when I mentioned that.

I think I must be the only person in the world... sad.gif The people I went with werent very enthusiastic and if anything just stressed me out and the whole process, I just didnt like it I cant put my finger on excatly what though.

::sigh::
You aren't the only one don't worry! I have been out 3 different times to various shops and hated every minute of it. I was really frustrated that all the samples were a 16 and i'm a 2, so it's really hard to get a clear idea of what the back will look like, and how the dress will fit! The other thing i hated was that I had an idea of what I was looking for, but none of the stores seemed to have anything close! Very frustrating!

Next time I suggest taking one or 2 people, and make sure they want to be there helping you! That can make all the difference in the world! Good luck!

I went dress shopping for the first time last Friday, and I actually didn't mind it. I think I braced myself for hating it, haha, because I hate trying on clothes in stores, and it turned out better than I thought. That's awful that the samples were size 16, barbiegirl! I thought stores usually chose a more in-between size so it could give you an idea of how it looks on all size girls. I was lucky in that most of the dresses I tried on were size 8, and I'm a 4, but would be a 6 in a wedding dress. So I got a very idea of what they'd look like on. I also was lucky to have my MOH, mom, and groom's mom there, and all were VERY supportive people. Although if anything they were too nice, they said everything looked gorgeous haha. But the girl working at the store really helped me out by critiquing. I think it's important to have people there who will give their honest opinions, yet be very excited for you and make you feel good.

we dont have a first dance agreed on yet either as we dont have 'our song' - maybe this is all a myth and not many people have a special song.

We are not doing a mother / son dance or father / daughter dance - i dont really think this tradition crossed the pond as i havent seen this at any weddings i have been to - Michelle and Nicy will prob correct me here? LOL.

Everytime i mention a song he just looks at me blankly and says -'im not sure' - think this will be a last min decision on our part - FI really isnt fussed on this aspect at all.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
