Recommended Posts

Oh My Gosh.... What have I missed??!!??

Yesterday was the first time in.... Well since I joined this site that I wasnt on.....

Lets see....

Were (at the moment) using a TA. But to be honest after reading things people on here its making me think... but yes, as mexbride83 says they do all the comunicating for you, a few weeks ago I was going in to see them with all my millions of questions about blood tests, photog, hair & make up etc.... and they were great, but one or 2 things are making me think whether to book the wedding package direct.... and the hol seperatly... I think I will see waht happens when the prices are out and decide that then!!! I will see how you ladies get on aswell in the mean time. Watch this space coz as soon as weve done anything you lot will most definatly be the first to know!! :-)

skadow... Massive congratulations on booking.. how exciting, im getting a tiny bit jealous (but in a nice way) of you ladies one by one confirming and booking your dates :-)

I know what some of you are saying with customer service though... this is very important, i know they have other hols/weddings etc to book but to be honest all we care about is us and our wedding and as this is a special time for us we want to be made to feel like its all about us!!!!

Has anyone got their wedding rings yet?

A friend of mine is getting married in July this year and her and her future hubby have been to get rings today.... this is making me want to go out and get ours now.... Do you know what styles you want etc?

Gosh when I started to lok at rings, abit like wedding dresses, I never knew there could be so many styles of a particular type of ring (dress) etc.... haha :-)

How much has everyone got planned so far? Is there things anyone is stuck with other than choosing a resort? Im hoping Ive thought of everything but just having a bit of a wobble i think......

Duh...LOL with planning; the wedding, resort, save the dates, AHR, and photographer I completely forgot about this expense.
.... My creditcards are gonna be getting a lot of attention

Well, TA or not TA. The thing is I have 30-50 people, from Hong Kong, Perth-Australia, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Morocco, Belgium, Italy, Arizona-USA. The TA manager told me, that 2011 Spring-Summer price will be out in Oct-Nov 2010, so it is too early to book. For Canucks guests, she can book with a group rate for plane-transfers-resort (usually not cheaper than regular online rate), for the international guests, they will have to book their own flights and transfer, and she can book the rooms with the group rate.

All that is pain in the "bum bum" for me.

As for the ring, my fiancé picked the same style as the Brad Pitt's wedding band (when he was with Jennifer Anston) in white gold (because platinum can get scratched easily), and I will have an eternity band with tiny pink diamonds and rose gold.

No on the rings yet here. I'm not sure what to do. My engagment ring is a band of 5 diamonds. I wanted a band because I am a dental hygienist and I wear gloves all day so a big diamond was out of the questions. But for the wedding band, I'm not srue if I should get a smaller version of my engagment ring or get a plain band or go with nothing. Any thoughts?

That ring is gooorgeous! It looks really similar to mine. I'm like you...I didn't want a big diamond sticking out catching on things (plus, I'm klutzy so I know I'd get it caught on EVERYTHING or poke my eye out with it or something).

What I think I'm going to do is get a really thin diamond eternity band on either side of it. I have to try it out to see how it looks, and I haven't decided if I want the diamonds to go all the way around or just to where they stop on my engagement ring, but I think it will make it look like a wide® diamond band.

See what happens when you go away from the board for a day? Chaos ensues!

I have never second-guessed booking with my TA. Honestly, I feel so much better knowing that he's taking care of all the communication with my guests. Plus, he has contacts at the resort we picked, and was able to get us some "perks" on the wedding package.

I'm experiencing some slight drama with our resort...apparently they just raised the prices BIG TIME on the private banquet dinners...like, up to double the price they were before. I'm kind of freaking out that the costs of this wedding are going to just balloon out of control. But...we'll see.

TA or Not...

I read a lot of reports on Trip Advisory where TA’s promised things that resort didn’t follow through on. I get a tad bit anal when dealing with multiple people, “He Said” “She Said”. I like dealing straight with the resorts. It allows me to fully understand where things are at. However with that being said....

My wedding is going to be rather simple in regards to the fact that everyone is flying in and out of the same airports. So the booking shouldn’t be that complex. With Aventure Cove the hotel is setting me up with a private link that guests can link through and book. This way everyone will be tracked under my name and I can see who is booked. I really see no need for a TA for my situation.

Now if I was having a rather large international wedding I would going through a TA strictly because I do not know the rules and regulations of multi countries.

We are going tomorrow to book our flight and rooms. I'm kind of having problems with our resort...after a month of contacting the wedding department I have finally recieved our wedding contract. Although, it has multiple things wrong with it including the WEDDING DATE!! So over 2 weeks ago I asked for a corrected contract and yet to recieve that now!

I went last week and bought my wedding dress, that will be in in May. When my FI bought my engagement ring he actually got the band as a set with it...but I was thinking of buying another band to have two! My FI hasn't looked for his ring yet though.

We also have picked out our location for AHR, but now I have to start thinking about the details of that. This is like planning 2 weddings!! And I thought this would be easier, boy was I wrong!

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
