Any 2011 Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Thx Michelle and Josie for the support and understanding...it is just I hate drama (negative, unnecessary and unproductive) and can't figure how my dad's logics work. I guess I am sort of giving up on him. He even said..disappointment is part of life. WTF is wrong with him? So now, I just focus on the positive things, like the whole planning process is exciting, I got my shoes..going to do site visit in June.

I try to not think about it for now as there is still a whole year, and my 16 yrs old little brother said that he will replace my dad and give me away.

Barbie girl...keep us posted! I wanna see the dress! heehee

He is 62 and he says he just cannot do the journey (the flight is to long for him) he has no health issues either! I think it's a cop out but that's just my opinion! My mum however would not miss it for the world. Your mum is probably upset about the whole thing and torn as to go or stay with your dad? I really hope he changes his mind as i know how upsetting it is! x

Latest drama, my dad decided he is not coming to my wedding! and my mom is sort of following him. I am very upset (wtf)! He is 51 yrs old, so it isn't a health problem. As they think if they don't come, then they will have the perfect reason to explain to my grandparents why grannies shouldn't come (again...weird logic) I also offered to PAY for their trip (my dad is a very FRUGAL man)...and then my dad thinks I am trying to "outpower" him on his decision (oki, now I think he is...CRAZY/ Psycho).
I absolutly agree, it is so so upsetting, Im not in quite the same situation as its not my parents but it Stephens parents who have said they are not coming, Because his dd wont be able to do the flight and also because they have the dog!!! It gets me so mad and sad, FI just tries to put a brave face on but i hate seeing him hurt, his sister (who is coming) has said she will try to talk them round... dad can stand and walk round etc and dog can go in kennels.... i would love them to be there obviously but i want them there more for FI than anyone else!!! My sister cant come and i cried at that lots and lots but i really do have to try not to think about it and look forward... i just know on the day i will shed a tear or 2 before hand!!! x I really hope it works out for you Bonnie and that your dad changes his mind, My fingers are crossed for you lovely xox

Shame they dont do the shoes in Aqua (blue) :-(

Nicola...

wow..I guess I am no alone on this. I was so upset that I cried so many times and get teary eyes when I think about it. I am sure u know what I mean. Sometimes, we just can't change people's radical/weird views, but I can't really understand why parents want to disappoint/hurt their kids'feelings like this.

Michelle..

Totally agree with you! It is totally a cop out. I think my dad didn't want me to goto Mexico, instead of DW, I can just sign the paper and host a family dinner. Because it will be much cheaper this way (again he is a very frugal man), but I am the one who is paying not him. Seriously, I accept being cheap is a choice of lifestyle, but he can't just impose everyone to be cheap with him. Imagine... I may regret for not having a nice reception for the rest of my life!

I agree it is negative. We have had so much upset with our wedding and i never in a million yr's thought ppl would want to go out of their way to upset the bride and groom. I had a massive row with MIL because i'm not having sister in law as bridesmaid, now MIL and I dont talk. I can cope with this as she is a very patronising and manipulative woman. She puts the waterworks on and a guilt trip on FI and it causes rows between us. I have said after this she will never come between us again. We have asked FI's brother and sister to be witness' at the wedding. Now the new drama is that MIL wants the brother in the same outfit as FI.....WTF!!!!! A witness does not dress in the grooms outfit. The woman is on another planet. She just wants control she didn't get her own way with the bridesmaid thing and is now onto something else! I dont understand her and i am just trying to rise above it and move on and not let her bother me but it does. FI told her "no mum he can't wear what i'm wearing" and all she kept saying is "yes, well we'll see" ..... She really gets my back up!

So we have her to deal with as well as my dad not coming and other little issues, it just makes it all hard work! Why can't ppl just be happy and let us get on with OUR wedding day! It is beyond me!

I love that your 16yr old brother is giving you away! That is lovely! We both will have handsome little men by our sides and be very proud of them for doing it! I really hope things get sorted out with your dad and your mum goes! I used to cry when i thought about it at first i think it was more shock than anything but it does get a little easier. Like you say you have a long time and i'm sure it will work itself out. We could all just do without these dramas ah! xx

Nicy- i popped in Thomas Cook yesterday and she told me they dont have a date for summer prices. She said it's anytime now and end of April (so maybe earlier than 29th yah).... But she did also say that Cosmos may not be the same. She said they can't say if all the TA's will be out at the same time. It will really upset me if we have to wait any longer! I think they will all come out together otherwise Thomas Cook will get all the trade and other companies wont want that. So fingers x'd! She just said check weekly and see if they are available. She also said that if we book ours and other can book themselves and they will just cross reference the bookings so it's not all down to us to collect money etc..... So thinking of doing this! But we'll see! x

Hi girls,

I was just reading through the recent posts and I really feel like even though I HATE that any of us have to go through such familial anguish surrounding our weddings, that there definitely is comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in any of this! My family is pretty traditional/conservative and can not for the life of them understand why I'd want to get married in Mexico. They all continuously talk about the financial burden of the trip yet they go on elaborate vacations every single year. PLUS, it's not like anyone ever offered to contribute anything to the wedding in the first place!!!

SO...while it's frustrating, I try to remember that we are all going through this and past DW brides always comment on how much fun everyone has, how special the day was and that they wouldn't change a thing. After all, it's our wedding and we should celebrate the start of our new lives in the way that best reflects us!!!

(end rant)

Michelle, Hopefully, earlier will be better :-) And like you say i cant really see one airline releasing prices and not another would be silly really!!! Like you say Tom Cook would get all the trade and i cant see the other airlines allowing that! Well i will and have been keeping an eye and ear out so the second i hear anything i will let you know :-)
Yeah were maybe thinking of doing that cross reference thing with the bookings... i take it if someone drops out we wouldnt be held responsible for their cost?! not that i expect it to happen but you never know!!

xoxo

I checked prices yesterday as they were listed for our resort and they are about double than what the travel agent estimated. I can not expect my guests to pay that. The only solution I can think of is moving the wedding up to Nov or Dec. I need to talk to my TA who is out of the office today, because I already have 11 ppl booked with flights and all!
Sorry to hear this! I finally got a glimpse of prices for our resort and they are very close to what we had thought, so we are probably going to go through with it. I also plan on giving my guest other cheaper options and just buying day passes for them. Our backup plan was to move our wedding up to October if the prices were too out of control. I hope everything works out for you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
