ahollo02- still in the "research" mode I guess...I met with my TA over lunch and he said I was going to go crazy if I looked at every single resort, which is of course exactly what I've been doing, haha!

I really like Azul Beach, any of the Dreams resorts and a couple of the Palace resorts. I love the Palace resort packages- it seems like you really get a lot for your money.

Those of you who have already picked your resorts, what was the deciding factor?

I chose Royal/Real Gran Porto because I like that my guests have a choice on which to stay at depending on their budget. The wedding packages were also reasonable, and I like the location being right on 5th Ave that my guests can go off the resort if they choose to.

Also, it helps that alot of brides on here have been married/or planning to be married there because if it wasn't for them I think I would be loosing my mind right now! :)

Kurly,

I haven't yet picked my resort, but I agree with your TA that you'll go crazy looking at all of them because that is exactly what we have done! I have to say though, if it weren't for the size of our group, we would've booked Azul Beach a long time ago. It was the first one that we truly fell in love with and we were ready to stop looking then and there. We were heartbroken when we learned that they had a 50 person max for weddings. The TA we were working with at the time (destinationweddings.com - TERRIBLE!!) knew the size of our group and still suggested this resort, apparently she had no idea there was a limit. She then tried to push Azul Sensatori, but the beach there is just awful. I couldn't imagine going to Mexico and just hanging out at the pool, so we had to forgo the Azul resorts altogether.

We also really liked Playacar Palace and were seriously considering it for awhile. But again, the beach was what finally crossed it off the list for us. But we loved the idea of getting married at the chapel up the road from there and walking back to the resort for the reception! We are now looking at Ceiba del Mar and Dreams Riviera Cancun.

By the way, where in VA are you from? I grew up in Fairfax County:)

We did book Playacar Palace because the deal they offered us was too good to turn down, especially with the number of people we expect to have, but I do have to admit that the beach thing was a real bummer. HOWEVER did you hear that they are doing a bunch of beach reconstruction there? I don't know the full details, but I'm hoping it will give us more of a beach at PP! We are also getting married at the church just within walking distance from PP. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it!

mexbride83, thanks so much for posting regarding the beaches! that's almost a deal breaker for me.

I know this is the M.R. section but here's the entire list of hotels I've narrowed down to. Feel free to Yay or Nay any of them! Lol. I'm looking at $1500-1700 a person and haven't talked to a TA yet. I'm pretty sure at least a few on here will be taken off the list due to budget.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Excellence Punta Cana

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana

Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana

Paradisus Punta Cana

Paradisus Palma Real

Mayan Riviera, Mexico

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun

Excellence Playa Mujeres

Paradisus Riviera Cancun

A friend was married at Excellence M.R. last year and she absolutely love it but it was just the two of them so all she had to do was show up. Lol. But that definitely made me look into the Excellence chain. Their wedding packages looks to be pretty good for the price. That's the only thing holding me back from the Paradisus chain...very expensive wedding packages!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
